So, a local food pantry gets 'damaged' stuff from farmers and stuff ready to go bad/expire from grocery stores. It is delivered on Mondays, so I went yesterday to see what was left. (sometimes stuff comes in those huge boxes that grocery stores sell watermelons & pumpkins out of!) , as it is free for anyone who wants it (I try to wait, though, so people who need it take it first) I got a load of carrots, some mushrooms, red cabbage, green beans, a couple of zuchinni, and a small head of broccoli. I'm in the process of cooking that up for 'chop.' When it is done cooking and I go to process it in the food processor, I also got 3 small red pears, a container of strawberries, and a container of mixed berries (small) and also a small pkg of 'spicy' microgreens that I will add in! I'm so stoked! Once I add in my oatmeal and a few seeds, I think I will have close to 3 gal. to package!!! While this won't last long this winter given the number of birds I have, it is, imo, a great start. [I feed 1-2 quarts at a time, twice a week in the winter if I have that much, and then I also grow a bunch of fodder...that I also try to give twice a week, but usually ends up 1x week regularly, and a second batch periodically, as, again, with so many birds, I can only fit so much on my windowsills!]
So, while this is chicken related, I still feel I owe tax/pictures of some sort:
1st batch cooked (I have a 1 gal. pot, so this is a little less than 1 gal. BEFORE being put through the food processor)

They are growing up so quickly! 2 weeks old this past Wed....they will soon be in the 'fugly' stage I love so much!
