Apparently my sister is not the only one who has resigned themselves to the fact I love chickens. My brother has too. He even has me more figured out, I don't just love chickens, I love my boys. Here is my birthday present from him.

Hey! Haven’t heard from you in a bit

How’s the north? -4c brr! Been very mild here havent even had frost yet! Bet all of a sudden it will just get miserable and start snowing hahaha.

Everyone is enjoying the nice weather, yesterday I let them out in the horse paddock and they went gaga over catching crickets - it was hilarious watching them run gobble run gobble…. Glad I am not a cricket around that lot!!!!

All is well. The leaves have changed colour and winter is on the way. Most mornings are frosty.

I am very pleased with the success of the expanded foraging area I gave the hens access to this summer. They love it and I enjoy watching them explore.

We had a hawk sighting yesterday! I was sitting with them, admiring their hard work on the garden bed when one of the hens gave the warning. We all looked up to check it out and I really didn't like the way that the hawk was moving in closer and closer, so I called the ladies into the netted run! So glad that they are so food focused that they respond instantly when I call them. Or maybe it's that they are competitive and don't want to share.

Anyway, the hawk moved on and the ladies enjoyed a snack, so everyone was happy (except maybe not the hawk).

For example there is actually a "scientific" study that says hens are more attracted to roosters with the biggest wattles.

They must love Pompei in that case he has the biggest waddles I have ever seen for such a little man!

I probably won’t get to it until tomorrow. I am still clearing up after the shindig yesterday, and if I am completely honest I may still be just a teeny bit hungover.
I mean, I am just a little tired!
There were no fatalities from the yellow jackets but several folk (including me) got stung. One poor guy got stung three times. I felt so bad for him.

I was wondering how the shindig turned out. I'm sorry folks got stung. 3 times what was that one dude doing? Tawnting them?
