Thanks, she is a real character! I have given the birds access to my garden, except for the Swiss Chard bed which I tried to block off unsuccessfully. Rosa knows that I don't want her in there, so she jumps up into the raised bed when I am not watching and gobbles as much as she can! When I notice and call her name "Roooossssaaa!" she gives me a mischievous look and hops down... until the next time that I am not looking! :barnie

It got down to -4C last night, so I think I will just give them access to the whole thing now. Rosa will be pleased.
You go Rosa!

And that is COLD, wow

I will try digging around to see what I can find. @bgmathteach can you link to the article you read it in?
I probably won’t get to it until tomorrow. I am still clearing up after the shindig yesterday, and if I am completely honest I may still be just a teeny bit hungover.
I mean, I am just a little tired!
There were no fatalities from the yellow jackets but several folk (including me) got stung. One poor guy got stung three times. I felt so bad for him.
Wow, these yellow jackets sure know about survival.

Apparently my sister is not the only one who has resigned themselves to the fact I love chickens. My brother has too. He even has me more figured out, I don't just love chickens, I love my boys. Here is my birthday present from him.

I drag her off that nest a few times a day, and she does get off of it herself. She will spend about an hour fluffing about in the dirt, grazing, sunbathing…. Then run back and go in the nest 😁

I have my silkie fluffy doing that also. I drag her off the nest too. She has been picking fights with her sisters and the other day she picked a fight with my pullet Rose!!!

She will run around a bit fluff a bit eat drink. Then head back to the nest. Crazy gals!
Today the gals got to stay on their nests out of the way while we did hay. Those 2 were the best behaved.

Now buttercup on the other hand kept getting loose running amok 😊

OMG I NEED ONE!

I will be interested to see what Bob and others with experience say, but I am struggling with any theory that would make it true that roosting young would predispose to bumble foot.
Bumble foot is an infection so you would have to believe that roosting at an early age creates some malformation of the foot that makes them more susceptible to getting a cut on the foot that then gets infected. Hard to believe.
Exactly. No reasonable mechanism by which this might be true. Bumblefoot is a staph infection from a cut in the foot. How would that be caused by roosting when a chick? Roosting as a chick would actually toughen the pad of the foot.

I love that girl and her comb. I'm sure she is a sweetheart, but her comb gives her a constant grumpy expression. The internet loved "Grumpy Cat", she could take the world by storm as "Grumpy Chicken".
I agree. Her expressions are priceless. Grumpy Chicken!
