It's more about jumping than flying. There is a roost height where they seem to jump down and impact hard. That is what you want to avoid. I lowered mine a while back because Hattie was hitting too hard in my mind. They land lighter when flying down. I would not cut the tree limbs.

I would watch for the ones where they might be just jumping down and maybe lower or raise those.

Does that make sense?
It is usually- but not always - girls in my oldest coop (which ultimately houses (mostly) my oldest girls), where the roosts are about 10 & 12 inches off the coop floor....they have a ramp that is used to get in/out of coop that ends with a platform and then a stump to get the rest of the way down. neither have sharp edges (I've run my hand all over the stump just in case), and neither is more than 10" hop. I am wondering about my ramp now though. The wood base is good, but I wonder if I need to replace the treads on the ramp. Again, first one I ever made, cut some scrap plywood to make the treads, sanded and put 1 coat of eurathane on them before attaching.....they don't look 'frayed', but maybe it is time to replace/redo ramp.....I would never use strips of plywood again.....(probably made way too many mistakes back then....some I'm acutely aware of, some probably slipped under my radar as I have learned more.)

Good Monday morning! It's overcast here, but not chilly.

The horses and chickies are doing their thing, just checked the cameras in the barn.

Oh that's 8 in the last screenshot! So 3 hiding out 😆

Ok back to work for me - humming my song....

How much is that doggie in the window. Diddly doo, dooby doo...

Wow! That first picture of Aurora is very regal/stately looking, I love it. It gives her a benevolent but firm ruler look - Queen Elizabeth would have been quite impressed with that one!!:love:love:love:love

The second one of Sydney is special, too, but you know I'm partial to BRs.

ans sweet Hattie...her head area is looking quite nice.

Finally, I LOVE the picture of Betty - great shot of her. Too bad you couldn't just swap out the background...as that is a GREAT profile pic of her!
