That’s a great set up.

I am rethinking my outside run now that I know the hawk is around, I need to get some mesh over top asap.

Anyone have any suggestions? The run is 16’ wide and about 90’ long - but broken up by big trees.
Run a series of taller poles down the middle to tent it. Snow fencing? Stretch chicken wire across, wire together in the middle, over lapping by several hexes. Run it under the tree branches or even above the lower branches but close to the same height at the circus tent poles, wire pieces fanlike around the trunk. No idea how practical, but you could roof it in stages.

Shiny Pinwheels, mylar streamers … I think the effect is only temporary until they get used to it and realize its not an actual threat to them but it is inexpensive and it may buy you some time. Since you have the trees you could tie the streamers to them.
And to the "tent" poles down the middle...

Took YS out for driving practice.

They were almost invisible against the taller grass, and were invisible from the other side.

Have had a couple of those wee eggs, one I know was from Sophia, she is 2.5 years old. Not sure if she is laying or if it's Blanche back to laying eggs, but there has been a large olive egg in the mix past couple weeks, the old girl Penelope will lay an egg every week or so. But I haven't seen any blue eggs from Buttercup - makes me worried she is laying them somewhere and one day I will find a whole cache of them :barnie

When my silkies started laying eggs they were about the same size they are now - they have been laying over a year now. I do think that they a bit smaller once they start laying after they have been broody though.
That’s everyone’s fear, that there’s a clutch of eggs hidden somewhere! :old

I’ve been told that my Barred Rocks are fake birds anyways so breed doesn’t really matter to me.
Fake? Pretty sure they are in fact chickens. Your barred rocks are gorgeous!

I think breeds are useful for predicability purposes as you know ahead of time what you will get and what traits they are likely to have but beyond that your right it doesn’t matter.

Certainly doesn’t matter one drop as to the love they give and you give them. ;)
