Well that was a complete waste of time.
I found bricks. I figured the configuration so they fitted in the nest box. I cleaned the bricks. I brought them up to the Chicken Palace. I dried them off in the sun. I put the top layer in the oven to heat them up. I constructed a cardboard cover for them. I placed it all carefully in 'Maggie's box', I covered it with pine shavings, I put pine cat litter in the lower part so the liquid poo would be absorbed.
I felt pretty pleased with myself.
Maggie took one look at it and went into the next box along.

I think I just have to commit to not intervening. I will clean her up when it is all over. To be fair, she somehow cleaned up a fair bit of her fluff today. Maybe she molted it off. It wasn't pristine as normal, but it was less bad than it was when she woke up.

That’s a great set up.

I am rethinking my outside run now that I know the hawk is around, I need to get some mesh over top asap.

Anyone have any suggestions? The run is 16’ wide and about 90’ long - but broken up by big trees.
This stuff might work good. I connected to the trees with zip ties. If you ran it in 8 foot sections you could work your way down the run around the trees.
