That Bernie is one special chicken. In so many ways.I'm so sorryIf I remember, Bernie did that with Bella, some, too! She may be a bold one, but she is also a very caring chicken!

YES! That’s what I mean
Oh I so hope she picks up she is such a beauty , it’s so sweet Bernie say with herPretty much the same. Which is awful. She hauled herself out of bed again today to sit in a patch of sun. But nobody is going out in the run because it is cold and very windy.
She just sits.
Rather sweetly Bernie sat with her for a long time this morning.
I am heading out to tempt her with some shrimp.
I think I'm going to need a tax payment for the gun talk.I like some Taurus models, don’t think we have one in 40. We probably have a 9 and a 45. But my S&W M&P can be used with 40 or 357 Sig (or 9 but I haven’t bought that barrel). I like the 40 for cheap rounds to practice or when I may need it for self defense. The 357 Sig is great when hunting if I think I may have to finish off a hog or something hard to kill. But won’t carry it in crowded areas. Highway Patrol used to carry that caliber because it will easily go through car doors, but l quit because that sucker will also easily go through walls, people, etc and hit a secondary target that you don’t want to hit.
So you cut the skin of in spots and they went after those spots. Is that correct? If so, that's pretty cool. I need to try this.Since pumpkins went on sale today @ rural king but still were not rotten I got my chickens their first pumpkin. Decided to go with letting them try their beaks at chicken pumpkincarving just because why not!

They love itI upped the anti and put some black soldier fly grubs in it for the evening. I will post an update on the poor pumpkin lol
Edit: @Ponypoor notice your fears were not unfounded they did indeed go for the eyesfirst!
Sure hope Theo is okDo you have other roosters near by that he can hear crowing ? At least 50% of the crowing we get here, is in answer to other roosters.
Out of my two males, Théo crows a lot, lot more than Gaston. He uses crowing as an assertion of dominance. Gaston is just beginning to crow during the day at 21 weeks. Mr P. doesn't seem like the typical macho guy and if there are no other roosters around maybe he just doesn't feel like crowing!
To be sure it's not an health issue, if you've ever recorded him crowing you can play his own crow to him and see if he answers.
I'm also worried right now for my roosters. For one thing Théo is chasing Gaston badly. For now it's just about frightening him but I'm afraid that once Gaston realizes he is three times bigger they will actually fight. And also, Théo is molting pretty hard, and now the tip of his comb is turning black again. It happened to him in summer with no issue, but it can be a cause of worry for roosters.
We finally have some rain forecasted for tomorrow and I really, really hope it does rain. We had a three weeks respite after nine months of draught at the end of august, and now everything has dried up again.
Anyway sorry for rambling and here are some thirsty pictures!

Scared of pumpkinsAmazing. The first time mine saw a pumpkin they ran screaming to get as far away from it as possible! And that one was already smashed.
They changed their minds about the desirability of pumpkin a few hours later but their first reaction was sheer terror!
