You know you are a full-on chicken lady when your husband buys you this blouse and you love it and wear it to work!

I used to love The Pogues and your version is pretty good!
Totally out of subject private anecdote : 15 to 20 years ago, Canada was all the rave in France. Everybody wanted to visit Quebec and move to Montreal. The hype extended to french Canadian folk music, to the point that a french group, les souliers rouges, actually made a huge success copying the reel style and even the accent ! My 26 years old brother at the time was sharing a flat with four girls in Grenoble, a mountain town, and I was spending all my week ends and holidays with them. They were playing and singing this song from dawn to night and it turned my brother totally crazy (he's more the Radiohead /PJ Harvey type 😂)

I must say the hype died down when grouchy french people realized it was very difficult to get work and life was expensive.

Out of subject tax : Gastounet and Merle two months old.

Awwww 😊 they know the best seats in the house 😊

That tune is still heard around here, I think it’s more a New Brunswick tune, the French spoken there is way different than in Quebec. Like the French spoken here in central Ontario, which is different than Quebec and New Brunswick. There is a large French population here and towns like Lafontaine are all French speaking. The local radio stations will play a mix of French and English songs.

I wonder if chickens from other countries have different languages and dialects? I had an Arab mare born in Egypt that was better with Arab commands than English - which I found out one day when she was being a dingaling and my friend husband started calming her in Arabic!!! So I learnt the word for stop first thing 😊 (bas).

It's another beautiful day here, with 25° and clear blue skies... and no rain forecast for the next two weeks 😔.

I loved seeing the pictures and videos of the new chicks. At that age, they are definitely cuter than human babies!

Molting : I don't have many seasons to compare. The first fall they were here, our six ex-batts didn't molt, and the next year we had one hard molt after Vanille had been very ill at the end of September, and Nougat molted in December but it barely showed, though she was acting very off for a month.
This year we have a crazy molt. It started with Cannelle at the end of August, then Chipie and Théo, and also the four younger chickens who had just got on their adult feathers 😬. It's far from over and Cannelle has the worse of it. They began loosing head feathers, then tail feathers, then wings, and now the body and neck. My other ex-batts are also molting, but not as badly.
I can't wait for it to be over. Like it happened with Maggie I hate not knowing if they are acting off because of the molt or if there is something else.

Thirsty pictures:
I didn't manage to catch it on camera but Gastounet spills water every where when he drinks.

Abject Failure

The whole pumpkin carving thing is going to be left to the human this year. Again.

This is the most interest it got. When I put it down.

Said pumpkin today, days later.

I know what will help...

Mix a little scratch feed with peanut butter, and smear it into all the carved spots. That will get a bit of action!

AND: I can't stress enough what a bit of cooking will do for encouraging them. Wrap said pumpkin in tin foil, place in heated oven and cook for about 45 min. (so that pumpkin is semi soft...not fully cooked)...then do the peanut butter and scratch thing...I bet, once they 'discover' how good it is by being enticed by the scratch feed, and the pumpkin being semi-soft, not rock hard, there will be some significant action!

Mine now go crazy when they seem me bring a pumpkin out!

I personally loved it. That is some of the same hawk behavior I see here.

By the way, Satan just flew by my yard. 🤬
