Love it! Thanks!
It's nice the weather is cooperating. Aurora is in bad shape right now and it is hanging on in the 70s all day. I'm very grateful and I'm certain she is as well.I have four in heavy molts right now, and I am thanking the heavens it’s lovely weather.
The Hen House is warm at night thankfully and the girls that are moulting are either on top of the nest boxes with a full solid floor, or roosting in the nest boxes to keep warm.
Thankfully its lovely during the day with no cold winds! The heavens are smiling on me for that little treat.
But I almost took the Cozy Coop heater out on Monday when it was damp and miserable, but really only Sophia is the worst of them, so I just brought her into the feed room. And gave her treats of course![]()
He understands the French accent means that rooster is not near him. No need to respond. He’s a handsome boy!
Mr P didn’t even bat an eyelash though when I played it for him![]()
That would be a fortunate set up if they have separated as you think. I hope it is so and consistent now.Even Jessica and Pear have ventured forth.
View attachment 3309793And as they're staying close to Hector, I'm speculating that he's successfully stolen them from Cheetah. (Pear as top bird within Hector's ladies provides experience there). If it means that an experienced lady goes with each roo in different directions, good. The girls can learn from the experience of the older ladies....and the older ones can thump the young and stupid (either gender).
That is a bad day.Bad day today:
1. Went out to car, someone stole the tag off my license plate.
2. Big hole in the old wooden fence north side of my property.
3. Big dog staring at me, growling (the perpetrator who made the hole obviously!)
4. For my safety and the safety of my chickens, I picked up a 2x4 and dispatched the stray animal. Then called animal control.
5. fence is under repair now.
6. In the words of Clint Eastwood.. “Get off my lawn!”
I had to kill the dog for fear of harm to myself and my family!
This is not helpful. I'm hoping Aurora molts fast. Cold could be just around the corner. I'm actually keeping the pool open another week because of the warm weather. Here's hoping it holds on until everyone has their new feathers in.Ugh! Why oh why? Diana has started to molt. Feathers everywhere. It is still quite warm and looks to stay that way for 10 days so I am hoping she hurries up and gets over it.
And to make matters worse, Bernadette is also molting. What is that about? I thought they didn't molt their first winter. But there is no doubting it because her feathers are a different color and they are everywhere too!

Every hen has their own egg shape. I have gotten pasture raised eggs that were more round before. It just means they are more natural in my opinion. They do not suit the required "egg" shape for factory raised eggs.I've recently bought eggs (free range) they were round? What does that mean?
Me too. I'd love an outside ThanksgivingYa this is crazy! At least we have nice weather at the moment, hope it hangs around till the end of the month though!
In case you can't tell by the soup party, I'm a huge soup guy!You get kicked out of my kitchen too.
Soup is on and grandma is sleeping so it is safe to walk away from the stove. I take my soup seriously, and even if Rosie was not sick it is now soup weather. This will be the first of many pots until springtime.
