Thanks. The terrible part was I kinda lead someone to think that something nice would happen, but I let him down despite my best effort. He hasn't replied to my emails :-(
(I suppose I was too naive. My colleagues want to hire mediocre people like themselves, not competent ones.)
Unfortunately, I have seen that all too often. They get intimidated by smart people, or ones that know their stuff, and pass them over for ones that they feel they can control, or that they are smarter than...so they don't look dumb/incompetent, etc. The trouble is...it makes them look more so (incompetent that is). A real smart person hires the best one for the job, and MANAGES them, doesn't control them nor power-play them - uses people's strength...that is what a good manager does!

I'm completely with you.

A Special Anniversary: November 2, 2015

I celebrate this every year and tell this same story and I will every year. Those of you who know the story already may skip to the photos if you want.

Once we decided that we were not getting out of the chicken business despite the loss of Elphie, we had to find Daisy, the greatest hen ever, a companion.

It is November so there were no pullets to be found anywhere. Somehow, and I really can't remember how, I learned of some hens that were being kept under someone's front porch and needed a new home. We went there to get one and came home with 2. Patsy and the "spare" hen, Lilly. I had to take her from that place and convinced Mrs BY Bob that we should get a third hen in case another one passed away and we could not find any more. Mrs BY Bob bought the argument and we got my special girl and longest lived hen, Lilly.

Here are my "new" girls with Daisy the day they came to join us. This is the first time their feet ever touched grass.

This is the first year which none of the three are here for me to reminisce with today. I really missed spending time with Lilly today.

Sorry I am not keeping up, I’ve been busy working on the house and I swear I will post an update once I get some decent tax photos 😂 I just dropped in and realized I’m so far behind I don’t even know where to start catching up… so I’m sending positive thoughts to everyone and thank you all for bearing with me not being here enough. I promise I’m not dropping off… I’m working on our housing so intensively right now that I just can’t keep up here.
I’m behind, too, Kris. Not as far as you, but still perpetually behind. Miss you!

Isn’t amazing, Bob, they came to you in such great condition, considering their living arrangement?

We get the extra towels mostly for lambing, which is why I don’t mind appropriating them at all. But it’s super handy to have a solid stack set aside that you don’t care about at all for your animals. I tend to keep one personal towel, but we used to have a full set of guest and hot tub towels in the city, so lambing/livestock towels isn’t really that different (depending on your social group! 😂 I know where mine landed…)
My double-wide beach towels became chicken lap towels.
