I don’t think hunting with dogs is allowed here either. We have a gun season and a bow season. The bow season starts a bit earlier and ends a bit later.
I think it is roughly September to early March maybe?
I don’t think there is a tag system for deer but I may be wrong on that. My neighbor hunts and butchers and always gives me some for the freezer.
He used to make this fantastic sausage too but he has stopped doing that because the guy whose spices he liked best has moved away. That is a real shame because it was truly memorable sausage!

Hunting tax - headless Diana. I don’t understand her molt - she seems to be pulling out her feathers. She isn’t eating them, just grooming really vigorously and plucking them out. I hope that means new ones will grow sooner. It is another hot day today but the temps are set to plunge next week.

Here dogs are used for hunting ducks, not deer.

My kiddos pull out their loose feathers and throw them everywhere! It’s like an explosion in the barn of a feather pillow! Blanche is right grumpy - I went to check them just now, and stroked her head and she just about took my finger off! Guess moulting is serious business…. Owwww!

Is waiting endangering Peanut? I am thinking or maybe hoping I can help her in the morning better? Is this something I should try to get it together and do a late night, am I being selfish? My head is swimming....
I'm sorry, @ChicoryBlue , I don't know:hit

I wish I could answer you.:(

When I got Marty she was so shy, bottom of the pecking order, scruffy….

Well she laid an egg almost every day for months before she went broody, then she had that miserable molt and came out looking all cute, and then Mr P showed up.

She made him her man and started her run for power after that! Today though she tried to lord it over Blanche who looked at her as of to say ‘you are messing with fire twit!’. And of course Blanche is also starting to mount so not happy. Anyways I told Marty, careful there sister, there is always a bird bigger than you!

And here they are hanging together!

I would say go with your gut (or heart). If it’s going to make you anxious then go ahead and disturb her tonight. Sounds like you want to, I would say go for it, the rest will settle fast after you disturb them.

If Peanut can make it until morning I will give her two halves of a pill as @RoyalChick has described, and I have epsom salts and could soak her in warm water too. How do you do a moist heating pad?

I just went out there now with plain homemade yogurt mixed with calcium powder (higher concentration than usual), and Peanut was immediately very interested in it. Popcorn took a taste and Butters, too, but Peanut ate it non-stop for a long while. This was notable because Popcorn is usually all over it (Peanut too).

When Peanut was done and wouldn't eat more I put the dish aside and felt all their crops. Peanut's was like a smooth fairly firm golf ball, I worried about it, but then discovered it was exactly like Butters'. Popcorn's was smaller and a bit lumpy and more moveable, and Hazel's more squishy but also like a golf ball. Popcorn probably doesn't get as much food unless she eats when others aren't around, I often see Hazel making it her business, going out of her way, to police her.

I felt Peanut's abdomen between her legs, and everywhere between her ribs to her butt felt smooth and very pliable and soft, no lumps in there or firmness or stretched out skin, and it didn't feel bigger or different than I've felt before.

I looked at her vent and felt around it, it was all fairly soft, but she definitely did not like me touching or pressing around it, she made noises and tried to move away. The whole vent area looked bigger and outwardly rounder than I recall, but I did trim a bunch of feathers away this evening. I could see when it pulsed the inner part there, her vagina? would bulge and come outward some. I didn't want to stick my gloved finger in there thinking it would introduce something infectious. I didn't bring lube out there (went out before you posted @bgmathteach) and I'm sorry I wasn't thinking very clearly. I will try in the morning.

Hazel wouldn't try the yogurt and was pretty vocal the whole time, though she made her excitable "there's food around" noises, she was also objecting. She said it was highly irregular for me to disturb them all with my red light and feelies and the yogurt treat did not make it okay. She's going to report it to the union first thing in the morning.
Well eating is always a good thing (unless it’s a horses they will eat when they aren’t well anyways!). Tell the union boss she can have some treats tomorrow ❤️ and I guess Ms Peanut should be good till morning. I will check in first thing!

Two for Tuesday!

Went out to do evening chores - fed the horses gave them a good night pat and told to be good, then checked the zapper trap and caught a second one! I have a board leaned against the wall and the trap behind it, guess it acts like a funnel! Two down and only 14,000 to go haha…

Also had to reposition Rose, she was hogging the roost from Mr P and Sophia. Must be full moon mania with roosting this week… my new shelf isn’t as popular as I thought it would be 🤨

I hope she can make it until morning and I'll set up a spa inside and get a pill into her. I don't feel I can do very well for her now, the thing is I'm exhausted, partly from hip pain today, and I need to go to bed.
Thinking good thoughts for you both.
I think morning calcium and a gloved and lubed up finger in the morning followed by a nice warm soak.
If the glove is clean you should be ok in the infection front.

I really don’t know.
You can only do what you can do. I think if it were me I would rest now but maybe get up super early to give the calcium.
:hugs :hugs
