Poor Peanut! She must be quite cold as there isn't much body cover at all. 🥶 Why are the late moulters 'hard' moulters...when they really can't afford to be naked??? I'm very glad you have electricity/cozy coop panel in there for her (I be she is glad, too!)
Are late molters generally hard molters? I am tempted to put a heating pad for part of the roosting area, as Popcorn is throwing a little weight around and decided to occupy the nest box doorway, and Peanut has not been able to get in there, she’s sleeping on the roost platform. I did fill up the tray below the platform with a lot of shavings and hemp so there’s very little draft from below.

I don’t know much about it but I’m thinking that the cold snaps help bring on a molt? Last year she molted hard, but I think it was Sept into late October. Not this late. This year we had very little of any cold snaps, like no early frosts and then “Indian Summer” after things had died from frost - it was all warm weather and now it’s like the middle of winter, all the time! 22F here. We used to have at most a weird early snowstorm that would melt away, and then usually freezing rain around Thanksgiving.

Wawa, ON

Snowing like crazy, my cousin gave me directions to her house and I made the mistake of clicking on it for my truck to read to me!

It was a URL for the map to her place, and the computer read it out letter by letter hahaha! For 2 minutes!

So have arrived and having supper😊
So glad you are there safe. 👍

Good on the negative for covid, there's lot's of colds going around here.

I was supposed too have gone out tonight but decided not too as where I was going there are a lot of people in a small space and I'm trying to avoid catching anything for as long as I can after weeks of a sinuses infection

The best therapy in the world is animals ❤
Marie, I missed that you had a sinus infection. I have one right now, too. Finally got some antibiotics today. And listen to this, people. I found this actually fascinating. Guess what my prescription is? 100 mg of doxycycline twice a day for seven days. I weigh 27 times the weight of one of my hens. And their dose is only half that. What the heck???

Have a safe trip @Ponypoor !

@BY Bob it's wonderful to see you so happy 😊. Maybe the world needs more blue eggs ? I hope you told Glynda that you're very proud she's a frost legbar.

Happy Friday to everyone ! We should finally get some freeze this weekend- six weeks late. It's so warm our potatoes are germinating in the cellar 😬. Hoping for some snow on Monday!
And also hoping the roosters keep quiet at roost times tonight and tomorrow -i'm on my own and don't want any chicken sleeping outside if the temps drop suddenly!

The Friday butts :
Cannelle (in front) has got most of her butt's feathers back and she seems to be doing a bit better 🤞. She's began pecking me again vigorously. I take this as a good sign.

Sleek butts: Merle and Chipie (missing a bunch of feathers). Glynda has me wondering what color Merle will lay 😊.

Blanche's butt. She's not telling me off, she's staring at a couple of eagles very high in the sky that have been watching us for a few days 😱

Théo the small terror has grown his beautiful tail back and is being the biggest pain in the butt 🙄. You can see he still has the shafts on his mane feathers growing out though.

Edited : almost forgot Léa's butt! Gaston is beginning to try to mate her every now and then (she doesn't let him) which makes me think she could be laying soon.

Some lovely butts for sure!
