I have to say over the last 2 days I have been pleasantly surprised. Of all my flock members the ones dealing with the arctic temps the best are the chicks. Instead of huddling up under their mothers like I thought they would be they are having field days playing in the snow. I have 3 disgruntled momma hens who are having to face the evil white stuff chasing after their chicks.

What’s happening with your weather?
Mother Nature drank too much eggnog and she is drunk. 13 right now with negative something wind chill. The wind will NOT stop blowing. Poor Raven is questioning her life choices at the moment chasing her unruly 5 hooligans who want to be out in the open digging in the snow. Every chance she gets she herds them in the horse stalls for the shelter. They stay there, for a few minutes then off they go again with her in hot pursuit.

Okay, I'm not sure of the exact prices, so I'll use nice round numbers for ease.

If original price was $20 and new price is $50, it is 150% increase, or you could say it is selling at 250% of it's original price.

original price X percent increase = amount of increase

amount of increase = $30 here
original price = $20 here

So:
20 x Y = 30

20 x Y = 30
20 20

y = 1.5 (decimal)
150 % = percent increase

can also use this formula:

ending price = percent #
original price 100

Here it would be:

50 = Y
20 100

Cross multiply (diagonally through equal sign)

50 x 100 = 20Y
500 = 20Y

500 = 20Y
20 = 20

500/20 = Y

250% = Y (So, ending price is 250% of original.) If you want price increase, it would look like this:

amt. increase = Y
original price 100

50-20 = 30 amount of increase

30 = Y
20 100

same [process, yields Y = 150% this is the percent of INCREASE

Okay, I'm sure I owe lots of taxes:

The girls are fluffed up to about twice their normal size!

And my last momma. She just did a very light molt after hatching my last batch of chicks, an this past week decided to do a full on molt, Last week I thought something had gotten into the coop overnight....counted all heads...nope, all accounted for ? What the heck? Then, she comes out from behind another hen & ONG, half naked.! She is already starting to look a lot better, but this is what you get when you go broody late!!!!! Silly Girl.View attachment 3357882View attachment 3357883
Math teacher to the rescue! You really brought me back. Extra points for "showing your work"!
Thank you. Particularly enlightening is the difference between a percent increase from the original price versus percent of the original price. If I got that right. :lau

Hold it - I’m fairly bad at math but I don’t think that’s right. Isn’t the new price two and a half times the old price? Like I could have bought it twice over and still not pay that much. So wouldn’t that be a 250% increase? Calculator - 259% or so?
The other way’ round it’s like the old price is 38% of the new.

Your brother might want to put a hold on his bank card, depending on how that works, can they go in there and take out the max daily?
Well, now - I think I will leave the math to @bgmathteach 😊

Coop has been tried and tested this storm!

All my chickens made it through the night with no apparent frostbite nor are they showing any signs of stress. So relieved!

My husband is a Locomotive Engineer so we moved Christmas up a day to insure he would be home to share the holiday festivities!

From my flock to yours …… Happy holidays everyone!!!!!! 🎄
Merry Christmas! Hope it was a good day! 🥰💕❤️

Momma hen is doing well. She came off for a quick drink, food and potty. Once again she was back on those eggs in under 10 minutes.
Wow! Oh that hen is a trooper! Ok well I am still thinking good thoughts - and praying the weather gets milder and no rain or snow!

That is great - and reasonably priced, too! I am bookmarking it!!
Presently, my chooks have one of the mortar mixing tubs (got it already in a sturdy wooden raised frame as if someone used it as a water tub - for $5 from REstore for Habitat for Humanity! And they have a spot under the roofed part of run that they use during winter, as well.

I find Spring and Fall they use it the least...but I think that is partly because in summer it is in the shade and I will either mist the soil, of bury a bottle of ice in it. In winter, that and the space in the run are the only options! I actually fill a couple 5 Gal. buckets on a dry day in the fall so I have dirt to replenish their dust bath. I do need something with higher walls so not so much gets flung out! The large, I think, would do well for me! High enough sides and enough space for a few to bathe at once. That with the tub I now have should be good...especially once I get the rest of the run roofed and there is covered space for it.
I actually used the drain plug once when I had it out uncovered and a heavy rain came. Was easy to lift here and there and drain away a lot of the water. They found the mud quite interesting.
