So chicken math - if I have one broody silkie who is one of 13 and she hatches 4 chicks what is the percent increase of my flock (assuming they are all pullets).

If I remember correctly, they think play sand is too fine. I will sweep some up off the side of the road and mix it in with dirt sometimes. I just wait until well into the spring when it has been 'well washed' by the rain. Sometimes the town gets to it first with the street sweeper, sometimes I do!

Hmmmm yes I guess the sand I have is fine, but not like the dust they have under the spruce tree! Which is just dust in the summer it’s so dry!

It’s not too bad today, about 27C (80.6F). Apparently it’s meant to get to 40-45C (104-113F) in the coming weeks. Not sure how I’m going to keep the girls cool!

Wow that’s hot for sure! Why can’t there be a happy medium - I want it to be 25c year round

So how do you keep your girls cool? I had some stress with trying to keep my gals cool and the humidity really bothered them.

Depending upon who's eggs she's sitting on, could she fit more under herself, will the others contribute to the cause, and who will turn up sneakily broody?
