A Split Coop Again Tonight

4 in the Main, Betty is there, and 3 in the Cluckle Hut. Aurora is still on Daisy's roost.

Hmmm looks like the girls who don’t need drama are roosting together ❤️

Similar temps here (-8C / 17F with a -3F windchill). I see that it’s supposed to get to +2C tomorrow and by Friday +7C - with rain ugh. But at least it’s not going to be sub zero!

Fluffy was bold enough to go outside yesterday!

Apples with holes carved out, and stuffed with peanut butter & scratch mixed.
Know what the best part of this was? I took the pieces of apple cut off, chopped them up, and added them and cinnamon to my pancake mix & made myself & hubby a treat, too!

This is good. Mum should give us this more often!! Wish it didn't swing so much, though - really have to work for this!

(BTW: This is crop girl 🥰 )

Oh wow she looks great - you did an awesome job with her!

What might be the odds, if everyone on BYC was to pitch in a $1.00 and we buy several lottery picks. Any chance of winning? California lottery, Minnesota lottery, any other state that has a lottery? :idunno What say you bgmathteach?
Good luck! That would be fun!

Just think of the chickens you could get them ?!

Chances of winning, though very low, is still better if you play than if you don't. :lau That said, I'd rather put my $1 into my retirement account. Safer and a better bet.

They have free choice which coop they roost in. They all sandwich together. In my 'green coop', with 2 roosts (4' each) There will be 7 or 8 on one roost, 3 or 4 on the other.🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ At least they have snuggle buddies in this cold!

And, @RoyalChick Notice the alternating? And those 3 in the front are best buddies. In my mobile coop (5' wide), I've had 10 chickens smooshed on 1 roost, and the rest on the second, with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th completely empty...nd they roughly alternate there, too. Sometimes 2 in a row the same way. ...... they do seem to fit tighter that way. also, my little buggers that roost on TOP of the dog pen and have to be put away....they also roughly alternate. I grab the ones facing away first (easier to have them step up onto my arm). By the time I come back - just a minute or two - a couple others have turned around so there are still some facing each way. I truly suspect it is for protection - see from both sides...though it is just supposition on my end.
Yes I agree they would go head to tail for protection. I see that here.

I'm glad they each have a safe place to roost at night. That said, one would think they would want roosting buddy in the cold. Looks like Lady F & Glynda are snuggling, and Betty & Hattie in the nest boxes should be reasonably cozy, but the rest??????? What the heck - it is F.R.I.G.I.D. out. Get over yourselves already!!!🤪🙄

P.S. I love how you can see their reflections in the window in the cluckle hut!
I wonder if it’s warm enough in there that they are comfortable and don’t need to huddle together. That is what I am finding with my kiddos, this morning it was about 40F inside the Hen House which is good for the two Grey Ladies and Sophia who are in the midst of molts.
