I just checked and the reason why there were no chickens at the farm show is because of the Avian Flu.
They talk about this non-stop.
I still should've gone for the rabbits and guinea pigs. Can't raise them until we move to the farm due to house and lot sizing issues.
I still want a Lavender Orpington.
Grandma would be great friends with one.
I gave Grandma walnuts and her breathing is better. Is it true that a chicken eating walnuts makes them have better breathing. Also, why no avocados? High vitamins and minerals?

Sorry you didn't get to the Farm Show, yes it's too bad it's not held during the summer time.

Your kiddos look like they are enjoying themselves.

(ps: I can understand your dad not wanting to get sick - I had the Flu over christmas - 2 weeks of misery :( )

Flu Tax

Everyone is tucked in bed at my place, it's going to be -18C overnight back home - meanwhile here it's still mild (for here) at -9.

This was when they first went to bed - still light out then.

Hi, Mr. P and everyone else!
It's fine. Just buy some cider donuts at the store or make your own milkshakes and apple slushies. Go to the pet store and look at rabbits and guinea pigs. It's not the same but at least there isn't a million people in one place.
I think Grandma has to agree that she hates crowded places. Her favorite place is the kitchen or with her family members.
Speaking of family members, I have a screenshot of Tony kissing Grandma. She did this again off-camera. Didn't want to make it too embarrassing for her.

Poor Grandma couldn't stop twitching her eye after that.

But as of right now, we have Internet, power, and running water. However, our little water company is in dire straits. Several homes still do not have running water, so the rest of us are in major conservation mode. Did I post that giant eucalyptus tree that went down? It was about 200 feet tall, snapped a powerline, and a half, took out the Internet lines, and broken water main.

I feel very fortunate that we have fared quite well here at our property. We can manage without power for awhile just fine. The water was tricky, but it’s back on. There have been so many downed trees and mudslides around us, we’re feeling super fortunate to have chosen a property that is not really in danger of a mudslide.

The generator was fickle, and we had some trouble with it, but I just treated myself to the Jackery 2000 pro. I hope I don’t have to use it for a while, but I’m so glad to have it. My hubby also thinks we should get a much larger generator for the future, along with water storage tank.

Is Hattie all right ?
Yup. No weight loss. She still roams the yard but she has been pretty stationary since Lilly passed and Aurora took charge. She never was an overly active hen. Orpingtons are not known for their high activity level.

Not lies - Educated guesses about the future based on current and/or past 'events. Since there is no way to predict future changes, the further out your prediction, the more off it is (i.e. US Gov. budget. 1 year out, pretty close, 5 years out, less so, 10 years out - forgetaboutit!)

Might as well do this - if you are too far out time-wise:

First Egg Ever!!!
Its tiny and perfect its mossy green and has speckles. I am beside myself excited. Due to the color its one the white pullets, Sugar, Flour, or Powder. They didn’t use the nest boxes :( I found it in the extra wind blocked portion of the coop in a corner and nearly missed it, seeing as how tiny it is and the color blended in so well.
