Eggs are not actually made of gold no matter how precious we think they are.I throw out floaters. I'd rather trust it than crack a nasty one.

Hmmm good point, maybe I should just chuck mine…Eggs are not actually made of gold no matter how precious we think they are.
Ok then I am keeping my eggs….Floaters just mean they are old and have lost moisture and have more air in the shell than when laid. It could be more air because of gasses building up - or more air because moisture has evaporated and the eggs are older but not bad. Crack them open into a clean dish. If bad, you WILL KNOW (horrid Sulphur smell), if not, they are good to go. If you aren't planning on using them at the moment, freeze them. If you have a spell in spring when you have excess eggs, you can do this to have some for the 'lean' times.
Agree, and you can adjust the legs to be at an angle if you want, so the chicks can move into the lower side or out further depending on the warmth they want. I think they are simpler than the mama heating pad, and you might consider making the mama pad like the plate with three or four open sides, last I knew people were modifying them that way, to avoid any trapped chicks. My heat plate is amazing. I would really be surprised if burning under a heat plate was a real thing. That strains credulity.
