Ooh she is beautiful! Are her eyes all dark like it appears they are? I love her head shape too. Is she a Cochin and Marans mix? Why aren’t you keeping her? Is that why she isn’t named?
I agree she is beautiful which is why she is starting to really catch my eye. She is a cochin x marans mix. I have not pegged her as a keeper because Ducky is my only 100% not going anywhere chick. She has been from day 1. If I am also being honest, the first 2 months she was not the best looking pullet. She is really starting to stand out now. Her eye's are that dark currently but I do expect them to lighten up as she ages. Will I keep her or not, I still do not know. If she stays much longer, probably. If those cochins continue to eat eggs like they are doing again now that they are laying, I'm sorely tempted to give them the boot and keep her. Those girls are lovely to look at, but are driving me crazy.

Oh thou great Aurora, hast thy gloriousness begot ones greatness and as they great bard himself sayeth:

“Th’ abuse of greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power.”

(Shakespear - Julius Caesar)

I shall likely get a slap down from HRH for that one!
Aurora does not have a remorse gene. She simply does not understand of what you speak and suggests that remorse is surely a human concept that has no equivalent in the chicken world.

Night time...

Ok all - I am off to bed - I have had a trying day, I haven't had the will to read everyones best wishes yet - still too raw - and surreal! And frustrating, I wanted so much to put cameras in the horses stalls but the lady 'didn't want anyone watching her clean stalls'...

I wanted to watch my horses - not her doing stalls :(
Maybe I could have had a different outcome if I had been watching (there's that would-a, could-a, should-a thing we are so good at).

But I am thankful I have my cameras with my chooks - so I can look at their antics.

Tonight is another 'lets roost anywhere' night. But at least I can count 13 of the little terrors!

Thanks all for your thoughts - very much appreciated.
Sleep well. You have earned it. :hugs :hugs :hugs

I can't tell you how furious I was when I saw it. I almost rehomed Sansa on the spot. But the way of the Chicken is not the way of the human. I had to remember that and calm down.
I guess because I have had the horses for so long and know their ways are not my way (as much as I would like to kick some people…), when I see them scrapping I know that is their way of communication.

Same with the chickens, it drives me mental to see Rose picking on Curly, yet Curly will pick on Buttercup, and buttercup picks on Rose!!!

What sort of convoluted social structure is that?!

Will give a more in-depth Butter response on her revenge later. Tonight though Aurora would be proud to know what she did at roosting time. She got up on the opposite end to where she sleeps. She then proceeded to throw off the 3 hens and Bubba who were blocking her path to her spot. The final hen in her ways saw her coming and what was happening and flew down on her own before she got slung off.

I liked how (was that Phyllis?) just turned around so her head was protected. As if to say buzz off so-n-so…
