I'm working in Oklahoma and got Lety's message that she found Gorda dead this morning when she opened her coop. Not sure why but Gorda was sick constantly as a pullet. She was in our home several months. That's how we have a strong bond. Fortunately yesterday Lety had put some of her last eggs in the incubator. Cholo has lost 2 girls from his tribe recently, poor fella.
Im so sorry to hear this happened and they found her like that. Im glad you have some eggs of hers to hatch.

Good to know! Everything I have read says Brahma would be fine with a 3' fence! Not taking any chances with those of mine in that case!
Mine roost with the rest.....6 feet up. They make the jump to 4 feet to start with.

And one flew out of the coop after everyone else for breakfast this morning.....she had to work for it, but she landed 4-5 feet outside the door.

Oh how sad - well I am very happy Lety was able to gather some of her eggs, sure hope that there is at least one pullet to replace her. Poor Cholo - poor fella :(

OK well be safe working.

If I’m patient (or bored) enough, I can watch the rodents cross the highway and then into the yards. :old
If I’m angry enough and bored, I can take each mouse, and with my tennis racket…. singing 🎼”Rocket-man” launch them back into the fields! (But I have to be very angry 😡 to do that) mice will chew up clothes, wires and books!

Don't your chooks go after the mice? Mine are very interested in vermin - and I have seen them kill and eat snakes, and Buttercup beat the tar out of a poor mouse and killed it - she tried to eat it but I took it away as I wasn't sure if chickens should eat such things!

Fluffy eating the snake caused me many sleepless nights! And then when I saw Buttercup with that mouse - and the sounds she was making - it was terrifying! That's when I knew it was a good thing chickens weren't 6' tall - they would be a real serious danger to humans otherwise!
