That’s too bad, I like my multi Rooster flock as well, I wonder how they would do without all the line breeding for antisocial behaviours. I can see why she wouldn’t be tolerant of Branch, despite all his charms. Definitely less survivability genetically.
What I wonder is if the temperament of the roos from hatcheries differ from those that I am familiar with. Hatcheries sell Old English Game chicks as do my local Rural King and Tractor Supply. I have saw a few hens purchased from there and while the hens have the same fiery temperament of Momma, they are noticeably smaller then she is. I hate my area though. You hear game, and well, it means mostly one thing. Last spring/summer a cock fighting ring was busted up and almost 100 roos were confiscated. Sadly all the boys were put down humanely. I never did hear if any received any jail time. They should have been locked up with the key thrown away.

Wait. What? Like this?!
Noooo!

Is the ‘her’ you are talking about, actually me?
I have a feeling it is.
What is a game roo?
I hardly dare look!
Yup you lol. Game is the short version of Old English Game. In a lot of places it also refers to fighting hens/roos. It is a tricky situation. There are good people who raise them for their beauty alone and abhor fighting. Then there are those who are shady. My family who have in the past kept chickens always had a few game hens running around. My grandfather and father back in the day highly valued their hens. They never had any roosters. Those hens sole purpose in their flocks was to be mothers. I was flogged many, many times as a small child. Never by a rooster, always by a evil hen who was protecting their chicks from me as a kid. I actually did not have a good experience with a momma hen and chicks until I was allowed to purchase my own chicks. I ended up with a pair of Dominique's. The old hen went broody several times and she was a angel who let me interact with her chicks.

This was Tuff. When we first got eggs for Momma hen to hatch after Rosie tamed her a game chicken egg was snuck in by the person who delivered them to us as at the time they were advocating that game chickens were the way to go. This was about a year and a half before I discovered my beloved Marans. I had 2 boys hatch out in that brood. Tuff and a EE x Wyandotte mix Toothless. Rosie loved both boys, we told her she could not keep both as they would fight she had to choose 1. Like any child she did not believe me and for about 9 months they did get along, until 1 day they did not. Tuff almost killed the much larger Toothless and Rosie saw she had to choose. She chose Toothless and I gave Tuff to a friend where he is still the king of his flock today.
