Ducky reminds me of Whiskers with her blue colour but red head feathersThe new girls on the block are getting big. When everyone is together it is getting difficult to tell them apart at times. They are just over 4 1/2 months old and their faces are coloring up. I predict all 4 will be laying by the end of March which is really not that far away. If I had to guess, Grackle will be my first new layer of that group.
I tried to get a picture of Grackle, but she was on the move, there are birds to chase after all. Even though it is blurry, you can see she is getting in her comb and wattles.

Ducky was a little more cooperative. She is the smallest of the 4 and I think will be the last of that group to lay.

Then we have the big momma of the group Perdita. She has 2 favorite hobbies. Eating and sleeping.

Yes iridescent - so lovely - she sure is a chunky girl - or is that all feathers?Perdita is not a black chicken, she is a green chicken. Looking at her it is no wonder that I think my black ones are the prettiest.
Under different lighting, that green turns purple and sometimes blue.
Is that Thing? fluffing around in the dirt.... ?And here I thought the proper way to apply was by throwing it with your feet....like this...View attachment 3415682

Those are Grackles ! They are very handsome birds, but boy are they ever messy!
You have a chicken named Grackle, but you don't know these? lolI was treated to these visitors for a few minutes while washing dishes. They did not get to stay long as Grackle and Ducky spotted them and proceeded to chase them off.

I should know what these are. I can identify several breeds of chickens, but fail miserably at most songbirds.
Well to be fair - we all helped her name GrackleYou have a chicken named Grackle, but you don't know these? lol
