Pretty nice day today, mid 80s and sunny. Treated my lovely wife to lunch before visiting my VIP poster in the Brenham Tractor Supply. Stocked up on feed for the fur and feather babies. Then spent the afternoon watching our chicks play in the sun. Even managed to split some of the oak wood so we can have a fire tonight. 🔥 View attachment 3418169the youngsters borrowing my chair while I am chopping wood.View attachment 3418171Itty-bitty because she's my favorite 😍
Aww love those kiddos roosting on the footrest so cute. And yes Itty-bitty is very cute - better watch Rebecca might come calling for her ❤️

I won't have chicks until May. I have no Barred Rocks.
Here's what I have for a tax payment...

I need to get more pics, I know.
Lovely! I love that comb on that white one - how amazing! And wattles - you know I love wattles!

Thanks Sally PB (you know my horses name was Sally right? )

Aw Jeeze...got busy and forgot to hit "post". Here's what I meant to post 3 hours ago:

Pretty sure BYC is a fairly safe place for young women. Of course, there are people trying to tempt you...with chickens. I'm with the others, I also thought you were older. Nice to find something you love so young.

I do that with my weight.

And my little flock at snack time.
I just watched my gang having the usual bedtime drama - I was shocked to see Buttercup grab hold of Rose behind the head and try to drag/throw her off the roost - what on earth! I believe Bob's tale of his Queen hauling others off the roost having just seen it with my naughty gal!

Can't wait to get home and give my gang the treats I bought them 💕 Getting egg-cited now - hopefully another few weeks.... maybe (sigh). I love my job, but I am ready to see my horses, chickies and family! Oh and the kitty :) Sorry Missy!

Wow. I didn’t know guineas came in white. I keep toying with the idea of guineas because of ticks.
Oh yeah. Before we got guineas, the ticks on my farm were horrible. Now we rarely get any! My mother did get one today, but the guineas have hardly been out the past few weeks. The white guineas are called White Africans. Love them! They stand out so much though. They have so many colors! Look up a guinea color chart. Once they hit a year old they calm down. My babies are super loud, as were my originals, but my originals are somewhat quiet now. Love them to bits!

Well.... hoping to get home March, but until I am actually on the road I don't count my chickens before they hatch :)

It is my hope I can be home before mid April, I have baby chicks ordered and I would hate to miss out on getting them - seeing as how the enablers on here talked me into chicks!

My work is in the energy sector - oil/gas. I like to classify myself as the 'jack of all trades master of none'. I am part of the management team here, I work closely with the Big Boss here on the job - it's a great team, everyone gets along really well - thankfully. It can be a big hassle and a lot of trouble when your such a long way from civilization if people don't get along.

I am fortunate in that I have a lot of autonomy to do my work (my boss doesn't care how I do it as long as it gets done). Also, I have a lot more freedom with my work, if someone needs something I can be the person to run into town 3.5 hrs away, on a logging road.

I am at the 57th parallel - way up north! It's usually very cold all winter (-30C daily...) but this winter it has been very mild, around the -2C to +1C (that is around 28F to 34F). Until the past week when it has been absolutely freezing! Winter has arrived finally.

Interestingly enough way up here, the daylight hours are now getting more every day, something like we gain 3 minutes of daylight every day! By June 21st it will be light up here about 20hrs a day. The sun will come up around 4am in the morning and set around midnight. And the night time darkness is not very dark. It is something to experience!

OK you owe tax for that non-chicken related question :)

And here is mine for the answer!

Tax! Here is one on my two's!
Splotch and BBQ. Don't mind BBQ's head, I dropped my phone while taking the picture. My three white guineas in the background. The one walking away is my white female, Ridges.

Awww! you know I really love Barred Rocks right? :)

I have ordered Bielefelder chicks, they have barring pattern - you need to look up that breed of chicken they are quite pretty. Hopefully I am home by mid April to get them ❤️

thanks for the photos!

Oh I am so egg-cited ! you can get guinea chicks also! Just think of the fun :) and I can live vicariously through you! Oh please say you will get some! 2 that's all! and 4 chickies - that will only be 6 babies !
Guinea chicks are called keets!! Ah, guineas like to be in bigger flocks! I got 16 in my original batch, and I am down to six! And I only rehomed one! Wonder what happened to the others... 😵💀
