I got my first guinea egg of the year yesterday! One of my second season layers AKA my adult/originals laid it. It's so tiny! Hopefully they get bigger!!View attachment 3431085

Oh, Willow has her egg color all straightened out. I will get a picture of that later.

Notice the use of paragraphs, just because clumps were bothering Bob 🤣
Thank you. :yesss:

Indeed not. And I didn’t mean it as an insult. But her body is so svelte and petite that she had the look of a song bird
Lovely.
She has impressive wattles too.
Thank you. She had the smooth lines of Phyllis with a giant comb instead of a mop top. :love

That Roo of yours is sooooooo cute! and I love his saddle blanket marking. Like a Medicine Hat Paint horse (the top of the head on the horse has a dark cap) very distinctive! Your girl is looking for treats I bet!

So aweful to hear you so ill, I hear ya - I was really ill also with the evil covid - I vaccinate everything here for everything hahahaha so yep I get all my stuff also (I used to also get rabies as I was handling wildlife - we joke that I am getting my 'rabies shot' now). If I could vaccinate my chickens for everything I would.

But my backup large animal / horse Vet told me here in Ontario the vaccines are only given at commercial hatcheries and not 'backyard' flocks - WTH! that's ridiculous - in fact I find that the fact there is very little Veterinary care for backyard flocks awful!

When I hear about some here online that are trying to get Vet attention for their chickens I cry - it's such a sad thing. I feel so lucky and grateful that my small animal Vet has her own flock (and cattle and horses :) ) and she does some specialty work with birds in general. I know I will pay through the nose for Vet care for my wee charges but it is wonderful that I can take my kiddos to someone who knows poultry.

My primary Equine Vet (who is semi-retired) can and does get me meds and wormers for my chickens; I can also send fecal samples to a lab through him for testing for parasites. I am sure that he would 'take stab' at helping one of my kiddos if need be, he has been around the Vet world for a very long time, so I trust him if I needed help (of course half the year he is in Florida hahahaha hence my small animal Vet as my primary Chicken Vet).

Does anyone else have issue with Vet Care or getting meds? How about vaccinating - anyone get their chickens done, or purchase chicks who are vaccinated? Just curious as to what chickens can receive for preventive measures.
Mareks vaccine is the big one here in the states. All of mine have been vaccinated for Mareks. Other avian vaccines can have side effects and need to be researched on their own. Most of them are designed to keep chickens in cages alive for 18 months. There effects on longer lives chickens are not always what you would expect.

When I have time to get outside with the camera I will have to get new Madea pictures. I can cry. I think I messed up and my "that is a pullet" from day 1 is another cockerel. Still not much of a comb, but that darn tail that is growing and the rust that is appearing on the shoulders of the wings do not lie.
Oh no! I'm so sorry. :hugs

Manny says thank you. 😊

I hate to admit, but I hadn't even looked into a chicken vet. I live in a very rural area and just figured if the need arose I'd call the closest one. Truthfully around here I might get a "just eat them" response if I called because of an injury. That's how people are. I thought that was how I'd be...but I'm too attached. I need to think about medicine. I will ask my closest neighbor with chickens what she does.
That will certainly be the response you get. Cull them.

I went years without an avian vet. Only in the last 18 months have I had access to an avian vet.

Rockin Robin....

Out in the barn, in my office rocking to oldies, have my chickies sitting there glaring at me for not giving them more treats.

Rocking around the clock.... bopbop bopbop dum dee.....

Pretty chickie, walking down the aisle way..... Poor old Roy - likely rolling in his grave at my mangling his song :)

I have missed your videos. :lau :gig
