No no!
Antibiotics as prophylactic are not a good idea.
That encourages resistance so when they are sick the antibiotics will not work as well (or at all).
Also, it doesn’t work. Giving antibiotics kills bacteria. They kill the good ones and the bad ones (which is why they often cause tummy upsets). But they don’t hang around waiting to kill a bad one should it show up at a later date.
Seriously, not a good idea!
Yes that is true, but if there is any risk for a stressed animal getting another infection the use of it as a prophylactic is warranted. An ill stressed animal will not fight any infection very well or at all and any help is better than no help.

It’s the same debate for using an antipyretic on a fever, there is the train of thought that the fever is there to kill off the infection, and the other that states reducing stress from pain and fever will help to encourage the body to heal faster.

Got an egg from our girl with the broken leg yesterday. What a surprise! I think we need to give her a name. Yall know my naming skills so a little help please. 😊
Wow so they will continue to lay - I guess better to come out than stay in at this stage ❤️

How is she getting on? Can she stand up?

12 happy and healthy chicks now in the brooder. I did end up loosing the weak one yesterday evening. It seemed to be getting stronger. I actually thought yesterday afternoon it had turned a corner and was going to make it. Sadly this is one of the downfalls of incubating your own, you will have some no matter how hard you try you will loose. It hurts each time. I still have 6 eggs left, going to check them this afternoon, no pips and no movement from the eggs so I'm worried. Overlook the brooder mess and their water dish. To teach them to drink I sprinkled some of their chick feed into it. It worked right away after I put some in. I swear chicks are born with the "only drink wild water" motto. Now that everyone is eating and drinking good I'm removing the paper towels and putting in my favorite bedding, sawdust. They can make a mess out of it, but, it smells so clean and no stinky brooder.

Soooooooo cute ❤️ Thanks for sharing 💕

Penelope was in the nest box this morning and if she laid an egg I was going to go get my nieces incubator and throw her egg and a couple Marty eggs in ❤️

Penelope is 7 yrs old now.
