Rosie has my sympathy. I'm allergic to several trees which are pollinating now. I use Flonase, Texas Clear tablets and a homeopathic liquid allergy medicine before I go out cutting the weeds. Mine got worse with age. Hope that doesn't happen with Rosie.

She has been on Clariton for a couple years now. For a long time it worked really well. Then she started having to take the 4 hour chlortrimeton on top of it during the spring and fall. Now we have to have a inhaler to the mix. I think they are getting worse as she is getting older. We go back next Tuesday for a follow up with the dr and discuss if meds need to be changed. Allergy shots were mentioned by the nurse who performed the test. I hope that is not the case, but, if she needs them she will get them. I just am extremely thankful she is not allergic to cats, dogs and her horse. Grandma kept insisting she was allergic to the cat and dogs. Rosie kept telling her she did not care if she was, they were staying.

Can chickens take capsules? I cannot find anything online. All your experts know the answer?

Yesterday night we were gonna give her a capsule of Amox, but started to think maybe we need to take the powder out of the capsule for her digestion. So I have the powder mixed with coconut oil, which were put in the freezer.

This morning, it was a big failure to give her the frozen coconut ball (too big). She somehow still have lots of energy to fight it.

When we came back from work this afternoon, we popped the whole capsule into her beak, so she got her first dose, assuming the capsule can properly dissolve.

She is clearly not improving on her own. She hasn't eaten food in 3 days. According to the best I can find, I am going to give her 250mg of Amox every 8 hours.

I use capsules. I ordered some online and they sucked. Our pharmacy will sell you empties, which I have DH pick up every time he gets his meds, if we tell them it’s for giving chickens a powdered supplement. They are pretty cheap but better quality than anything I’ve found online. The online ones tend to stick in the chickens mouth and not go down easily but the pharmacy ones are good. I am sure between the gizzard and other digestive processes that the chickens can take them effectively.

Even failures such as that CAN be a lesson - IF anyone bothers to follow through on it. A very hard learning experience for all, especially the chicks...but that horrible experience SHOULD be used as a learning one so it doesn't happen again and so children become more aware of different social/non-social animals and the impact it has on their ability to thrive. I have to say, that is the teacher in me coming out - if we don't learn from our failures, we are doomed to repeat them. That said, my personal reaction to that story was both:

Did the teacher know it was a failure? If no one lets them know then it’s a missed opportunity for learning.

Meanwhile chicken math will need coming to this place, apparently the teachers incubator hold 24 eggs

I feel the same about my critters. I don't care if I am allergic or not I love em all.

Im allergic to everything, trees, dust, feathers, grass etc. I used to give my self allergy shot that finally helped some and I take a allergy spray from the dr. I hope she finds relief soon.

Lety moved the rascals yesterday from the brooder to their own pen. Come roosting time they had me cracking up with all the chattering and squawking and jumping from roost to roost. They are a bunch of characters.

I just book the last date available at my processor, and then hope for the best, everyone is usually an ok size by then, if anyone is late (squeak…) they end up staying through winter, and then usually until my first processing the next year of meat birds. I book some extra spots for my cockerels with each batch but the abattoir is really flexible for me.

Lucky here they are year round where I took the birds last year. There is another place a bit closer I am going to check out - I am planning ahead this time expecting Roos and making a humane plan to deal with them.

Ain’t it funny that I have been a civil servant all my life and end up with COPD later in life! Co-PD!
