Finally caught up again, it has taken forever.


Poor thing. Thankfully she has “some” things she isn’t allergic to. When I was young they tested me for 130 items. I was allergic to all of them, including just about everything that grows, cats, dogs, horses, mold, and house dust. Took allergy shots twice a week for about five years. Now I “try” to manage with OTC meds. It can be a struggle, but she will find a way to manage.

For the vulture lovers, here are some assorted pics of Black Vulture adults/babies. We have a breeding pair that has laid for the past four years in an old culvert on our property.

And remember no rooster here.
The only plucked feathers around are Eli's and she definitely plucks to make her nest nice and soft, and when she has laid she gathers up feathers and moves them to where she laid the egg.
But I don't really see any sign of her going broody.
Frankly, if it put a pause in her laying of dinosaur sized eggs it would be a relief!

No rooster doesn't mean her instincts to brood aren't playing with her.

No rooster doesn't mean her instincts to brood aren't playing with her.

Oh yes, I totally get that. I just meant all the pipping stuff won't happen unless I have fertile eggs. But @RebeccaBoyd has pointed out that I don't need to actually have a rooster to have fertile eggs.
Oh boy.
I don't think she is broody - I think she is just generally cranky and she likes moving eggs around!

I would be very interested in seeing video.
I am pretty sure I have nests of turkey vultures near me because I have great crowds of them - I mean like a dozen or more - who hang out on the edge of my field.
I have no idea where the nest or nests are though.

She is right now in a cage in the barn separate from everyone and she has ACV water and a feeder of fermented feed and some plain old feed.

I would give something with easy calories in it for her to drink. Regular Gatorade is great and some chickens love it. Sugar is easy for the body to break down and turn into rapid energy.

If you believe she has coccidia, it's too late for ACV. ACV is a preventative not a cure. You are going to need to treat her. Most treatments are water based and therefore rely on the chicken to drink normally. If she is not drinking then you need to direct dose them. Corid can be direct dosed. If you need help with dosing, let me know.

Now to my big question. What makes you think you are dealing with coccidia? How did you come to that conclusion?

I have no thirsty chickens here today it seems! But sure are having a blast digging up leaves in the puddles!
