It was dinner time. They knew I was making dinner inside. Dinner is usually around 5:30pm these days.
Dinner = chopped cabbage + wheat bran + milk/yogurt + kelp powder + a bit rice + egg/sardine + occasional leftover + occasional live mealworms
That sounds great, but what are the chooks gonna eat?

All my gang get is a couple handfuls of scratch grain to get them inside the barn! 😁

Chicken Palace

I have often talked here about how the Chicken Palace is built on a steep slope and how the rafters are 11’ up which is why I can’t get Babs or Eli down off their roost at night.

Today I was doing a bit of cleaning and restocking of food and water prior to my trip and I got this picture which I think gives a good sense of the height and the slope down and out to the run where my chair is.

I don’t usually get pictures from this angle and thought it was quite cool so wanted to share.
Does anyone see anything odd? Something that definitely caught my eye.

Let me zoom in a little and maybe you will spot it.

Do you see it now?

Yes indeed. It is an egg.
I have no idea how long it has been up there. Judging by the size it is a Babs egg. She missed a couple of days laying last week (or so I thought!). She must have laid it early one morning before it was light enough to fly down from the rafters. Did I mention the 11'?

Hi! Can I join the thread?
I read through two hundred-and-six pages before realizing there was a primer.
Join us the chaos that is FBA thread! I read most of it while laid up with a broken ankle, it was a wonderful distraction and I learned so much along the way. It is a busy thread however you would be hard pressed to find kinder, more helpful folks that are willing to share their experiences and knowledge and ask for nothing in return (except for pictures, they sill require those 🤣) The primer is lovely BUT I personally think the reading the ups and downs is entirely worth it!
Finally caught up again. Sooooo many things to reply to, lol.

I prefer head first. Should be a quick death with no chance of running away. Gingerbread men are the exception.

Three of mine look like CCLB but have different feather colors. They also are a “designer” EE, but I don’t know which one since they were part of a “mystery” collection. They likely have CCLB in their lineage. The little head crest are definitely cute.

Scarlett is one of mine.

Is the second one also still standing in a strange posture or sitting in place? I would check closely for egg binding (which can put pressure on the legs making it hard for them to walk or stand). And unfortunately I think leg paralysis can be a symptom of Marek’s (but I’m not positive). Have they laid an egg yet since the behavior started?

Welcome! Tax is imposed any time your post is not “chicken related”, you are supposed to include a chicken picture with the post. If not able to at that moment make a note on the post that you owe tax and post it later. SHRA tax means “Should Have Read Ahead”. If someone posts a question, and you answer it before making sure it hasn’t already been answered, means you owe special tax for an unnecessary post. Those tax pics must include at least two chickens. If your answer adds additional information or opinions then you don’t owe the tax. (Purpose of tax is to keep the thread from getting unnecessarily long. But we still post way too much, lol.)
Scarlett is beautiful 😍 She does look remarkably like my two just in a different shade.
ZZ TOP tax: (box of rockers)

I love that last photo in particular, such a sweet face she has.
