It seems that when I go to town and leave the Chooks outside in the yard, something happens to them (usually to Jaffar who protects them) I have to leave them locked up in the coop and run today. I need to go grocery shopping
They will be OK.

Crap, could have a issue on Gryffyns eggs. I went out late last night because I forgot to tie Louis in. I decided to check on her eggs and when I moved her could not find her eggs. What the heck? I started moving the hay around and I found them buried under the hay. They were not buried earlier in the afternoon because I saw them when she came off to eat. I think Louis may have covered them over with hay. Unfortunately they were cold but Gryffyn went right back onto them. They were developing, and I'm praying I found them in time.
Oh no! I am praying they are still good.

I did this on my lunch break (working from home, otherwise wouldn't have been able to upload pics until tonight.)

Okay, so, @notabitail , I am not the best sketch artist, and I find it hard to put a 3-D object into 2-D well. So, hopefully this will make sense to you :fl Note that the last page as comments about options related to, but somewhat different from the 2 sketched out. (oops, seems for some reason, camera rotated pictures, wouldn't post as landscape format.. Sorry :(

The same. I brought her in this morning and she refused to stand up. When I try to let her stand up, she balances on one foot for a few seconds, then collapses and lays on her side.
Is it an obvious injury, or maybe a strain/sprain?

Could you create a sling for her (think: hammock, with holes cut for her feet, to support her body...and hung low enough so feet can touch ground, but high enough so easy for her to not put body weight on them if she doesn't want to. This will allow for somewhat normal movement of them, but without pressure.

An old towel (ones from a thrift store are great if you don't have any Mom will give up), and a plastic tote box, and a few clamps to hold/secure the towel)

I suspect that she is in pain given what you said. a little aspirin or advil/ibuprofen will be helpful. There is dosing posted previously on this thread, but I can link you to the post if you need it. Low dose aspirin (81 mg. tablets) and/or liquid children's ibuprofen is best/easiest to use for dosing chickens, imho.

Edit: You can use children's liquid Tylenol, too, but the previous 2 are anti-inflammatory.

I'll do these. Thanks.

I do not feel the least bit guilty locking them up when I am away. Better safe than sorry is my motto.

OK speaking of which, I am off to Peavey Mart (TSC in the US) to get some electric fence tape, and insulators. Gonna zap the crap out of anything that dares to touch that fence!!!
