My chickens are just so whiney today with the bad weather - grumpy grumpy grumpy!
I was of a mind set that I was done
You never know but if I had lost them all I certainly would have been done for quite a while. Especially like that.
It seems I have gone through loss after loss over these last few years. Yes there are good feelings but just think about it. In the years you have been on the thread, How many chickens have I lost?
For me it's just been too much in sequence in a compact period of time. Imagine me losing them all not 6 months past Gucci's passing. Why would I try again? I'm impressed by @RoyalChick continuing on after what happened to hers. Still having 2 left would help. If I even had 1 I would feel obligated to carry on as I would owe it to that hen. But if they were all gone, I could not see myself staring over.
I'm not really certain I would recommend that someone do this to have pets. While I think they are wonderful, fascinating animals, it is a hard path to walk with potential tragedy lurking around every turn.
Cats are much easier.
Marty was like that until I brought Mr P home - that all changed then. She and he stuck together, and she then became a hen of some status - in my gang there isn't really one bottom of the rung hen, there is always a mish-mash of who is dominant over whom - for instance Sophia is dominant over Buttercup, but she lords it over Curly, who in turn is boss over Sophia!! One thing is for certain though - Penelope is the head over everyone - no one picks on her! Ever! There are many chickens that can wind up as out of the main group. Chickens can be very "clique-y".
Thank you! She was at my door asking for worms when I wasn't there. I think she wants a refund.
With a silkie, ignore stocky legs and stances this young. All silkie have short stocky legs. Chiquita's legs and feet are thicker and bigger then Branch's. Stance, again, half silkie. Silkies have attitude and spunk, in spades. Your going to have to wait about at least 5 weeks old. She, because, all are girls to me, is going to have a poofy head. I bet she is going to be hard feathered, so that will make looking for streamers difficult. You might get a clue from the shape of her head poof. Now see? I wanted to post a photo of Martina earlier and it wouldn’t! And that gets my messages all balled up then.
I was looking at her legs and they seem stocky for a pullet …

She definitely has her mamas feet![]()
They like me a little better today, I even let them have a bit of a free range in the paddock while I finished stalls, and washed the wheelbarrow out.... had to chase them back to home base though as they were making a bee-line to the back fence. That's were the lions and tigers live! You should be ashamed, you know it's all your fault
That's how my girl's treat me on a bad day
Yes agreed with the feet/legs - Marty has the most awful manly feet and legs hahaha! They are really quite reptilian. She is more out going than the other two chicks hatched the same time, who are way bigger than she is. They hid most of the time and I have to dig them out from under the brooder to handle them. She is out there with the big girls, hopping up onto the brooder. I moved them from the large crate to a small water trough I had here, but I am going to have to cover it soon - likely today - as some of the Bielefelders are eyeing the rim and can already fly really well across the trough! With a silkie, ignore stocky legs and stances this young.
