I must say I love the idea of these shelves, they chickens seem so much happier and less bedtime drama.

I like the roosting platform, a 3x3 square area, in the coop here for that reason, many more configurations for sleeping. Those shelves have another advantage though, there’s no choke-point like I have with the coop pop door.

I find it's an easy clean up also, I bed with some shavings, and then I can easy flip the poops into a small muck bucket with a spatula , re- bed and we're good to go for another day.

Very little poops to clean off the floor. And at 30" it's a good height for me to keep clean.

Or, as they get bigger, mix it in with the current bag of starter. In a couple (2 to 3) weeks, they will be so much bigger that they might be fine with the larger crumbles.

Again, in a couple of weeks, mix some in with what you are feeding now, and if they eat it, great! Keep doing it. If not, then whatever is in it, they don't like.

Yep I will try them and see if they like it.

He just wanted to snuggle up with me for a while. Sweet little guy. Now he’s out in the yard (roostering) The hens want none of that!

Question: why is it that the chooks always run at top speed when I open the run door? They run out into the yard and then stop, scratch around and disperse?

Chick Update
I have to leave for town in a few minutes, but Coco is in a box with a partner by the wood stove. Has also electrolyte water and I syringe-fed her water and olive oil. She has mash and dry crumble accessible. She ate some crumble and drank a few sips.

Not sure what to do with a whole bag of chick starter now! Might mix it wil the hens ration to get rid of it.

That sounds like a good plan. And if they don’t like it, depending on the protein level of might be good for the older ladies during moult.

Last night's storm put another foot and a half of water in our pond. Now we are only two feet low. Another good storm will about fill it up. This is the fullest it has been in 3 years. Will pay pond tax when I'm done fishing.
