Good morning everyone. Chick watch is officially underway as of this morning as we are on day 19. I listened to the eggs and no internal pips just yet. Goose is off and judging by the way she is furiously eating and dust bathing, I do not expect her off again until they hatch. I've also had Rosie's best friend over for the last 2 days. She is discussing her chickens and how good of a daddy the Blueberry brother she took 2 years ago is. I've saw pictures of Pepper, he is a Drumstick x Henrietta son and even though he is a mix he looks just like a Blue Copper Marans rooster would. Well, Mallory is plotting, and plotting in ways that could get me choked by her daddy but I love the way her brain works. Every time she visits she comes home with a dozen or two eggs as their hens have not picked up laying all that well. She wants to bring home some to give to a broody hen when she has one to hatch. Her dad has several game hens, there is always a broody around in the spring and summer. She wants some silkie eggs and a couple of my other girls eggs. I told her I would think about it. When her dad picked her up this morning I informed him of her plans and he laughed and said if she wanted to she could. He also said he had a hen that he thought would be broody soon. I guess I will be dating chiquita's eggs now and saving them up and when the time is right he is bringing her up to visit so she can bring home some "eating" eggs.
That's awesome - I am sure Daddy is enabling his daughter as much as you are :love

It's always a good thing when your parent is also a crazy chicken (or horse/cat/dog) lover - helps with enabling your kids :)

I've dusted her today incase mite are coming and oiled her comb wattles feet and legs. Earlier I washed her bottom with Epsom salts. I didn't soak her. She seemed too have a prolapse so I added a little honey into her vent and she seemed fine earlier but this is how she is right now

My Tina has suddenly got poorly. I've just given here water with honey and a tiny bit of himalayan salt.

She ate raw egg this morning I'm worried I may have done wrong, she laid two soft eggs and I'm frantically trying to help her.

Maybe being out on the front has caused problems. Her crop is swishy but it's evening here now. She's happier in with Princess so I don't want to upset her by keeping her indoors :/ .

I have the canesten here if it's a fungal and the penicillin. I don't want to use either unnecessarily

Even though I don't smell and sour coming from her beak, i still think it sour crop.

I do not think being out front harmed her in any way. What do you mean by poorly? Is she sitting off alone feathers all fluffed up lethargic? Or is she just maybe not eating as much as she should.

Sophia's crop is always mushy in the evening, my other gals to varying degrees have hard or soft crops - over time I have learnt what is normal for them. If you have some scratch grain give some of that - it will fill up her crop and take a while to breakdown and move through digestion. At her age I wouldn't worry about giving too much but don't put out loads of it. 1/4 cup scattered around so both of them can 'hunt' for the seeds will do.

I would watch very closely and see how she is doing. Remember Blanche was laying all sorts of soft shelled eggs last year. This year her eggs are ok - so far!

OK I will make sure to keep an eye out for updates from you.

♥️💕

Can't wait to see what she hatches; they will be so cute.

All dozen and half of the eggs I gave to my friend to hatch failed to hatch - all 18 eggs - 12 Silkies, 6 from the other hens :( Incubator issue likely.

So I am collecting more for her this week. I only have Marty and Henny Penny laying now (for Silkies), and Martina is the only Marty chick so far.

a wifi booster is all I need to boost the signal a bit further. I dont see spending that kind of money on a bridge when a booster will work just fine.

Well if that doesn't work, if you have power in the shed that comes from your house you can try a powerline adaptor - these turn the power lines in your home into lines that can transmit data. I use D-Link PowerLine adaptor so I didn't have to run ethernet through my house.

I could probably have used that to get data to the barn, hmmmm one day I might play around with that! OK well good luck and let us know.
