It really is amazing and so cool you get to watch it by candling. Like a sonogram but without the 1500.00 charge. 😂

I let the crew out into the run this morning and went to inspect it throughly and it’s working very well, no issues but one so far.

The issue is the other pullets have decided that since they cant lay their eggs in Brownies bowl any longer they will lay them between the coop wall and the tent, as close to her as possible. 🤦‍♀️

Ill manage seeing as how it’s temporary but its always something!!
Ahhh...

Happy Chicklets

I had the chicklets outside today, they had a blast dirt bathing, and sunning themselves - brrr though it was chilly at only +7C. A couple of the ladies dropped by for a look-see, Marty took a look, decided NOPE not interested and left, Rose was very interested but I didn't want her to get too close - she is the only one of my young ladies that hasn't gone broody - yet hahaha!

Can't remember who came over, checked them out, gave Tippy a soft peck on the head - which earned her a swat - it didn't deter Tippy (she is the chick with the white wing tip feathers) who just continued to scratch and dig - guess it wasn't that hard a peck.

Then my phone went off - well that sent them all into a tizzy! The one smart one (I think it might be a roo) ran back to their little box, but the other 2 ran and hid under Mr P! He seemed to not know what to do with these wee little things hiding under him! I on the other hand I was just about freaking out worried the would get attacked, but no one did anything, so I calmly picked them up, and took them back inside where they conked out under the brooder.

Mine need an outing. Maybe tomorrow. Today is pretty miserable. I also need to give them some grit which I am doing today.
They are about due to move into the Chicken Palace but it is still getting very cold at night. So I think my plan is a series of outings but still back into my bathroom at night. Then I will move them to the garage at night and then move them into the Chicken Palace.
They need more room for sure - the feathered leg lady got a case of the zoomies and was running/flying/flapping around and she needed more runway!
I think I have another week at most in this space and I would rather see them learning their new home before then.

Drama and mayhem

Dorothy earned herself solitary confinement just now. She has been just vicious with poor Curly, esp since she has gone broody, and just now she grabbed Curly hauled her from the nest box and proceeded to beat the crap out of her. She tore out handfuls of her feathers poor Curly.

I had to intervene, and rescue poor Curly, whom I replaced in the nest box and blocked her from view.

BUT Dorothy then went and hauled Fluffy off the nest and the two of them where in a huge brawl, Mr P wasn't breaking it up so I had to grab Dorothy - Fluffy meanwhile grabbed my hand and wouldn't let go! Owwww!

Well I could have clobbered Dorothy but I grabbed her up stuffed her in one of the small crates and locked her in there.

This doesn't bode well for having chicks here with those two if they can't protect them.

Dorothy and Rose have been real terrors they are the youngest pullets but have been causing grief with everyone, Rose seems to have settled a bit, but that Dorothy - she better get over her crap fast. It cost just as much to feed a good hen as a bad one 😡

Yes I have the same dilemma - and now Dorothy has eroded my sense of comfort for them - I really could clobber her.

Anywhoo - I need to figure out a place with more room but with the continuing COLD WET weather (and no end in sight for the next week) I am at a lose as to what to do. I may just put them in the Summer House during the day, and then back in here at night.

Hate this time of year....
