She's more of a co broody. All 3 girls of this tribe are broody over 2 chicks,

Well those will be well cared for chicks!

My friends are coming here to drop off my chick and three of hers for my broodies.

I had Goldie outside for a while yesterday and will today also. Today I begin working on her tractor as soon as I make a side door to the guinea tractor.

I like the name Piglet, but if you don’t there is the famous Miss Piggy. I like Piglet better, the origin brings fond memories. There’s also Porcelain, a play on Porcina.
I’m afraid to ask about Eli, and have been hoping for cheery news. Can you say yet? I know the reality with these things, even so, hoping for no more heartbreak for you

Working on cleaning out the coop. The help is truly underfoot.

Break time. Indigo has been pretty persistent in trying to lay an egg, then bailing when the work inside makes her nervous. Blanche is also working on an egg.

3/4 of the floor is broken up. 2/3 has been hauled out to the garden bed. The sides were falling apart, so they got spread across the bed first to go kinda with the German farming technique of covering a stack of logs with dirt for long term composting. Also spread the ash bin across it before starting on the excavation. The rubber necking from the feathered peanut gallery has been entertaining.

Eli is no better or worse. She spends most of her day in the nest box. I bring her breakfast and supper on a tray and she eats well.
She goes out a couple of times in the day where she rolls around like a drunk.
It is sad to see.
I don’t think she is in pain or suffering. She makes happy clucks over her food. But it is hard to see this ending well barring some miracle.

I fear Piglet is stuck with the name. No doubt she will end up becoming an elegant svelte lady like Phyllis and I will be embarrassed by the name. But right now it suits her perfectly!

Popcorn today near my feet, everyone at one point nipping bits of grass on the edge of the driveway. I loved sitting there with them, listening to the tiny grass clipping sounds.
