Lark and Indigo were black, too....

Copper marans and brown leghorn (in hens) are VERY different coloring....

Warm weather? Hah! Oh how quickly we forget the ole bats winter stunt. Today is is 56 and super windy, albeit much better then it was in January.
Brrr yep that’s not hot! But at least it’s dry.

It was only around 8C and pelting down rain very damp here, I am surprised those babies even showed their beaks from under mums!

I was worried about the three youngsters being chilled but they seemed ok. Tougher than me!

I have a question about Sophia, does she have clean legs? Coloring wise yes she looks like she has Marans in her lineage and egg color suggests that as well. The comb and wattles are definitely too small for a Marans but not surprising for a mix.

Yea clean legs

I love that term and I will use it in the future from now on. Such a loaded term full of empathy and understanding. Emotional wisdom ❤️
Many people hold more than one emotion at once and more than one thought at once. Just the other day I was watching a video of Billy Bragg (a noted atheist) singing Jerusalem (a noted hymn, sung in churches) and someone in the comments naively called him out for it - they didn't realise he was demonstrating solidarity with the Women's Institute, whose hymn it is (the WI was bequeathed the copyright) and solidarity with the workers of yesteryear whose labour built the wealth of the owners of the 'dark satanic mills' in the first chorus. Anyway, Bob holding numbness from grief at the same time as connecting with the living is emotionally adept.

She looks an awful lot like Brownie just minus the leg feathers. I read there are two types: Black Copper Marans (BCM) and the original French Black Copper Maran (FBCM) both lay Dark Brown eggs the French ones have leg feathers and the other is clean legged. She could also be a mix but genetics just brought out the BCM in looks and egg color. 🤷‍♀️

Momma finally brought her chicks off the nest.
Nothing to see here.

I know it is not Branch's because the half silkies always have a double toe. Goose's chicks are 1/2 silkie and I do not think one of them has a double toe.

Crossing her with splash marks is still highly likely to produce blue. It may be a very dark blue. Her gold and his lacing could do interesting things. Another 3-5 weeks should show most of that....unless the 12 week feathers produce even more interesting colors. (That's when the red bled through on Lark and Indigo.) Any way you look at it, the chicks are uniquely adorable.

So far all the feathers coming in are black (much to my disappointment), they look just like Dorothy (Penelope’s girl), and Rose (Blanches girl) did as babies and Dorothy is black as can be and rose only has this blonde neck shackle feathers otherwise black also.

Dont get me started on wee Penne, Penelope’s baby this time around, she has the white wing tips like Tippy but otherwise looks black.
