Was that the egg you thought might be cracked?
I don’t honestly know. She shifts them and of course all the eggs are pretty much identical since they are all Orpingtons. I just lifted her up a bit and peeked in. I couldn’t see all the eggs just a few.

I have heard of people candling and such at this point but idk how they go about doing so without harm. Now, if she had gotten off them today when I was out there I entirely would have been been more inclined to inspect each of them but nope so far as I can tell she hasn’t budged today at all.

Oh that’s a great idea setting it on a table! No bending over also.
Yes but you have to watch out when you open it up, the gang here wanted to jump out and either land on me, or try for the counter top behind me (and miss until they got better at it). I ended up setting up a little “trapeze net” - a screen for a window- just below the opening as a safety net!

Poor wee fella 😊 he needs a mini me son to show the ropes to. You need to get some more silkies and keep a Roo to help him!
I agree on more silkies but I cannot have another roo. If I kept another boy I would have to place one of the current 3. I had enough trouble getting Branch and Bubba to accept Twig. After over 2 months of trying to kill him they are finally co-existing again. Tomorrow I am probably going to have to do something I hate and put down Madea. I have not been able to rehome him and the 3 boys have turned on him. 2 days ago he somehow managed to hurt his leg. I do not know if he got it hung, or if one of the boys really did a number on him but after tonight's inspection I believe it is broken around the joint area. Cage rest might help for a few weeks, but even if he was a pullet cage, rest is not a option right now with 4 broody girls all my isolation spots are taken throughout the day. I have a suspicion one of the boys hurt him. He was starting to go after the girls and was stupid about it causing the hens to call for the boys for backup. I watched him throughout the day today and while he can get around he has to take frequent rest periods. He is a sitting duck for a predator. I made sure he went to bed with a full crop tonight, and will make sure he has a good breakfast in the morning before the deed is done.

Successful chook wrangler tonight! :frow
Now I can go relax and enjoy my evening ( without any chooks ) this time.
