Put me down or I will peck you in the eye Hooman!

And that is eggsactly what the little fart did - a huge whopping thump right in my right eye - need to go assess the damage I am sure there is a tear in it as it is just evil painful. Maybe a trip to emerg to assess and an eye patch for a couple days.

Mother mercy oh that smarts 😳 yep it’s a Roo BTW I am sure.
Oh no! Ouch 🤕 I hope your eye is okay.

When my bunch were babies I had a few that were ever-so curious about my eyes too and attempts were definitely made at pecking my eyeball 👁️. Silly, curious, little mischief makers!

I love my little tent. I have it on a table so the little babies are at eye level and I can reach in rather than over the top.
The mesh is very fine so easy to see through and keeps the dust in. My only issue is the one I got is only 30" round so it is a tad small for 5 chicks with all their 'kit'. They do come in bigger sizes so I might look out for when they are on sale and get a bigger one for some future generation of chicks.
The only other issue is that because it is a pop-up there is nothing you can use to hang waterers and if you pick it up it all sags in the middle. Not a big deal but means I need to put waterer up on bricks so it doesn't get filled with shavings.

Looks interesting, especially if you’re going to integrate them early, then it may not need to be as big.

Combining it with a dog crate in the palace would offer more room, like a dog crate with two openings, one which leads to the tent, the other made small by cardboard or something. The dog crate would offer hanging feeder /waterer possibilities.

You could put a 3x3 piece of plywood under it to move it?

If the top zippers off, maybe you could hang a waterer with the rope coming up and out right where the zipper(s) meet.

Chick watch and Brownie update:
No one is zipped yet I must have been seeing things smh @ myself for trying to assess progress UNDER a hen with a phone flashlight.

Today however she made it much easier as she got up, and I got a wonderful photo. Look at those external pips! The sweet tiny peeps clear as bell now. Only two have not externally pipped, I did candle the unpipped ones while on their side and they are internally piped and I saw movement.

Disclaimer: any eggs turned briefly for this photo where returned to their original position.

Making her way back to the nest. Once back in the coop she ate a bit and then the peeps started up and watching her listen and heed the call by going back perching on the side of the bowl and carefully assessing the egg arrangement before settling herself back down was so sweet to watch.

So eggciting! Can’t wait to see your wee ones!

Maybe not a productive day for me, but I let the chooks out. Rain off and on, and they are doing their chickeny things in the yard.
I about had a shock here - the sun made an appearance! The chicken were dropping to worship the sun god ❤️

Yes absolutely I have a brooder box built in to the Chicken Palace so am about to move them there.
I only use the tent when they are quarantined in my bathroom.

I could not help it, I've been staring at Momma hens chicks all morning and kept thinking I was seeing signs in all of them that leaned towards silkie genetics. I broke my own rule and got my hands on all 4 and battled the demon. We shall call it a draw, I got to look at the chicks, she drew blood. Upon inspection 3 out of the 4 have various silkie traits and Twiggy needs 3 cigars now. 1 of them is clearly a Marans x Buff orp cross. Straight comb, normal leg color although feathered and no hint of future muffs or beard. The other 3 are half Buff orp and 1/4 Marans and 1/4 silkie. 2 have tell tale signs of a future beard and muffs. 1 of the 3 appears to be beardless but black skin like a silkie. In time it may get a slight beard and muffs like Goose, we will see. For the longest time I though Goose was not going to have a beard or muffs. None of them have the double toe indicating they would be Branch chicks. All 3 of them though do not have a straight comb, it will be like their daddy's. All 4 do have feathered legs, the 2 fuzzy faced chicks have the heaviest leg fuzz.
One of these days I will learn not to mess with the ole bat, but it is not this day.
