I will not mention how many pictures it took to get a somewhat accurate size comparison of the chicks. They would not be still and simply getting to be next too each other was almost too much to ask.

Gryffyns chicks. The Blue one is a cochin x marans and the black one is marans x silkie.

Babies confirmed at Butler Hollow Coop!!!!

I went out with mash as I have done almost every day for Brownie to have a snack and get some water and with some patience out comes this one:

I see the scratch on its beak and she scolded this one pretty harshly for coming out. I was worried and said screw it I need to see of the rest are ok or if Brownie is a great sitter but a horrible mom. I know this happens, rare but possible. So I lifted her up gently and set her on the ground. 😱 I counted 6 fully fluffed out we ones. Mama got right back in the nest with them and didn’t hurt them at all. Here are a few more photos of them.

No meanness after that one incident, should I be concerned or was she simply trying to protect that baby from me and the cold? Thoughts? The rest seem perfectly unscathed and very lively.
Precious!!! Brownie seems like a great mama!

Now, some just because they are cute and everyone has chick fever picks. I would be lying if I said I did not have a favorite. There is no need to ask which one either, I have a silkie chick lol.

Is it possible that Eli is broody?
I mean that wouldn’t have affected her balance but now she is just sitting in the nest box on two ceramic eggs. I don’t know how she got both of them.
I brought her breakfast in bed and her hackles flared and she bit me.
Then she ate the breakfast I offered.
I don’t know how to tell if she is broody or has just retreated to the box because she is feeling unwell.
