? Are you sure it is a BR/silkie cross? Maybe it is a cuckoo maransXsilkie? BRs have yellow legs and silkies have dark skin...this guy has white legs..........???:confused:

Do you have a picture of your Barred rock (with the legs included?)

Regardless, he is a handsome boy!:love:love

(P.S. so is Big Boy's son!!)
100% on the breeding. He came from our old Silkie roo and his BR hen. Here's more pics. The BO and Silkie crosses have more of the typical Silkie feet but the BR cross only has the slightest appearance of an extra toe. Parents are in the second picture, sorry it was taken at a distance and is a little fuzzy.

He is a interesting cross. Leg coloring comes from his silkie daddy. That black silkie skin is fairly dominate I am finding with some of my crosses. I'm curious have any of your 1st generation silkie crosses ended up inheriting the silkie feathers? So far none of mine have, they all have ended up having normal hard feathering.

No, Chester is too ornery to be sick, lol. Star who is a German shepherd mix was sick but you can't tell that now. The girl is into everything. Just waiting for the virus to be expelled. The vet said it can take a month before she tests negative. She is a sweetheart and we will rehome her with no issues just want to make certain that she is 100% healthy before we let her go.
Oh that's good to know she is doing well. Pets can drive you crazy sometimes with worry!

Sometimes I just lock everyone up and sit back and relax without having to worry what they are up to!

Ty, I can do that for the poopy butt.

I cleaned out all the wet bedding. About a third of the tent was effected. I can not for the life of figure out why she simply didn’t move to the other side, but she didn't. I immediately got them to a dry spot, about half of them are wet, pretty soaked. 2 are perfectly dry. The dry ones are out eating the others are under her up in her wings. I am gonna try and take a few small towels outside and see if I can help them out.

I could bring them into the bathroom and blow them all, it would be interesting as I am certain Brownie would be pretty furious but if it has to be then it does.

Thoughts?
I dunno. I think I would be scared of blowing them to kingdom come.
Maybe a towel dry for Brownie?
Is it nice and warm at least?

I don’t know so hopefully someone else will chime in.
But, I followed @Ponypoor’s direction and used a damp cotton ball on my one poopy butt chick and it took all of 3 seconds to be nice and clean.
I do think wet chicks is not good so can you get Brownie into somewhere dry with them under her so they can stay warm and dry off? Can you dry her off with a hair dryer maybe?
I raised nestbox even 1" off the ground will prevent this sort of thing, I have a shavings ramp built up at the front of my nest box for the chicks, they were navigating it by the time they were leaving the nest on their own. Even a cardboard box up on some 2x4s works awesome, I did that with Henny Penny's brood when they left the nest box. She sat on her eggs in the second story nest box, I plopped a cardboard box on some 2x4 on the ground and she was happy as a pig in poop!

Yes a warm damp cotton ball will clean up poopy bums. Don't put anything on it though to matt the fluff. Just make sure you towel dry those chickies and mama too if she will let you.

OK take a deep breath all will be fine just take is one step at a time. You and Brownie are doing wonderfully 💕💕💕

Same here, our first generation crosses have formal feathering. The extra toe varies from chick to chick as to the extent of the toe. The BR cross rooster to the smallest extent. The BO to the greatest. The boys will get to mate with a full Silky hen and I am interested to see those babies later this year.

I was bad yesterday, it was Derby day so during the 7 hour broadcast coverage I did not go outside. I went out early, let everyone out and fed and watered. The chickens were on their own. When it was over it was time to round up the mommas and chicks for the day to put them up. While doing that I spot a pile of white feathers beside the creek. My heart drops and I start looking and trying to count the Marshmallows. I only find 1. Ok panic really sets in and I circle the yard and yup just 1. I run in to ask mom if she had saw them as she had been out several times, she had. She must have realized I was upset about something and she asked if I saw the feathers. YES, yes I have and I am missing 4. She laughs....literally laughs at me. There was nothing funny about my panic, I was missing 4 white chicks and there is a pile of white feathers out back. She then told me Momma Hen had been in rare form and was whipping everybody, cats, dogs and the other chickens. Apparently one of the Marshmallows found themselves in her line of sight and she whipped it pulling out the feathers. Ok, I can breathe a bit now and go back out to find my missing chicks. By the time I get around the house here the 4 missing chicks come.....off the hill. They look at me and then scamper straight into the coop to put themselves to bed like they had been caught red handed in mischief. The Marshmallow mafia is going to drive me crazy before long.
I don’t think I am strong enough for you to have Marshmallows. I literally held my breath reading that.
I can only imagine what you were going through!
