Too funny!

They would need a place in the winter - don't you get snowy winters? And very cold? They would need a home during the evil white stuff season.
So Northern Bobwhite Quail are native. Also almost extinct in the wild in my part of NJ.
As a native I would think they could cope with winter and I would feel less guilty if they went feral.
Big hatcheries ship them ‘100 at a time’. I assume they would need a heat plate for the first week or so as I don’t have an adult broody quail. I think 100 quail may be too much for Eli!

Tax for quail talk.

What is it with eyes this Spring!

Wow that's just crazy, sorry to 'see' that happen - but glad she didn't connect with your eyeball itself!

OK rule from now on is to wear proper PPE around chickens: safety goggles mandatory, and non-slip foot wear optional (that poop sure is slippery!).
A woman in one of my facebook groups posted yesterday her trick for dealing with mamas. She ties a piece of wide lace around her head to cover her eyes. Says since she started they are totally calm around her. 🤷

I am crazy behind. Supposed to hit 90°+ by Sunday! So much yard/garden work to do.

Well breakfast has been eaten so off to swap my alternator. It just never stops around here.

That sky pic is awesome!

Well I was wondering if there is a model where I don’t lock them up.
I feed them like people feed wild birds.
I provide structures suitable for roosting - like I provide nest boxes for the Eastern Bluebirds.
And then I just hope for the best.
Wow RC, you feed all kinds of animals. If you are not too busy, I’ll take a pizza, ham, pineapple and mushrooms please 🙏!

Tick #s 4, 5 and 6 have driven me indoors. This feels way earlier than normal for this many ticks.
I need to unearth my tick defensive armor. I have cuffs impregnated with tick repellent to go over my sleeves to stop them crawling up my arms and the legs of my pants. I think I have a hat with netting - like for bees. And @Marie2020 told me about geranium oil as a tick repellent.
I have it all. I just need to find where!
Meanwhile, a guy who I have asked to help with some drainage issues around the barn stopped by. His neighbor raises game birds for hunting clubs. He is going to ask his neighbor about the feasibility of me sourcing quail to free range to help my tick problem.

Tick tax.
