Everyone here eats early-season chives, except for Peanut who doesn’t care much for them at any time. Now they prefer the clover over chives, the clover was always good but it must be just perfect now. The chives are getting little flower buds and are probably tasting different now. They are real greens specialists!ONIONS?! Aren't onions bad for them??
If it was weed you could get high as a kite here,![]()
I've have to tuck in my little princesses now. They've had a lovely day, the weather has been lovely todayI have decided two possibilities. 1, that the chooks have all gone crazy.
Or 2 I’m just out of their league![]()
Mix the crumbles with the pellets for the transition.Per @Ponypoor’s suggestion I offered it to them.
They are still a bit freaked out by me so they all jumped up and ran away.
Piglet however …… !!
So Piglet came back to investigate what I had in my hand. I think she assumes everything is food until proven otherwise. So naturally she gave it a go. If it was the only food around she would not starve, but she can clearly eat the crumbles faster. She took the pellets and beat them into submission before eating the pieces (which at that point were crumble).
I think I will buy one more small bag of crumble and start giving them pellets regularly as well. My guess is by next week everyone will be just fine with pellets.

Same day, this is Butters in front. Queenie’s on the little clump behind her. I encourage any chives as we cook with them too, they self-seed, are easy to grow and to transplant. They like sun and regular moisture and not too much competition with grass. Here they are growing with some daffodils which the chickens should not eat, but they avoid the daffodil leaves anyway. They know what to do!
