And a 6th, preferably a rooster or a crowing hen to act as a bell. And a 7th, preferably a rooster or a very flashy hen as one of those things that flash on the back of bikes. You need to teach 4 of them to cooperate and ride that thing! One for each pedal and two -one each side - for the handle bars. Maybe a 5th on the seat to coordinate everyone, kinda like a coxswain!
Mine don't eat the tomato plants but they do eat the tomatoes!Same with my tomato plants the first year I had chickens!
Hattie has that issue. She plays with her food a little bit and that can cost her when the others spy a tasty morsel. Especially Lady Featherington as she will steal food right from your beak if you are not careful. No mugs from me this week. Between gardening and sitting out splitting grapes for the crew, my hands were a little occupied/dirty. I did notice that everyone is in the coop much earlier than before the dingalings went into the freezer. The ladies are much more willing to lounge under the trees. I saw Belladonna dust bathing. Poor girl needs to do a mini moult/moult early this fall to regrow her feathers. Silver sat out under the edge of the olive trees and watched EVERYONE. She wasn't even all that interested in the grapes (of course i went out at a time that most had their crop stuffed full anyway). Full crops slowed down some of the girls, giving Thing more opportunities to get some. Most of the time, goodies like grapes are piunced upon so quickly that if you blink, its gone. She tends to inspect things a bit before grabbing, and with grapes, that means they're gone.

Anyway, back to Thing. Yesterday's grapes were thoroughly killed before she ate them....and she got very enthusiastic about grapes.
She looks very happy actually. How do you know she is not happy being mean to everyone? It is Monday and here is Eli who is so grumpy that she is not wishing anyone a happy Mugshot Monday!
Her mugshot makes her look much happier than she is!

How wonderful!Mugs from a calmer second outing, I ditched the pen since it cant keep the babies in and just trusted Brownie and myself to keep them safe as they explored. This worked out much better. The biggest danger to them seemed to be one of my cats who was watching them with wayyyy to much interest. I kept a close on him.
Brownie managed to get in a much needed and wanted dustbath for mother’s day. So I would call it a successful outing!

I will have to look at it through that lens. I was thinking that when she puffed herself up and flared her hackles and yelled at me, that she was unhappy. She looks very happy actually. How do you know she is not happy being mean to everyone?
I know this lady loves to be mean. She seems joyful when doing it. Thankfully she has never been broody. God save the world if that ever happened.I will have to look at it through that lens. I was thinking that when she puffed herself up and flared her hackles and yelled at me, that she was unhappy.
Maybe she is just enjoying the show!
