Our little friend from south of the border is back here today. I hope this bird doesn’t give my tribe a “gift that keeps on giving”! It’s eaten their feed, drank their water, and constantly screeches at me and flies away, when I try to catch it. View attachment 3508784
That bird is beautiful and has to be someone's pet. Next time it returns if it does look for a leg band. If it has one, it is definitely a lost pet. Happy has a leg band. My brother will never remove it, that band # identifies her and her vet records incase she ever heaven forbid got loose.

I cannot agree more. I guess I am old school in my thinking. Thankfully in 3rd grade Rosie's teacher was one of the "evil old hard ones." She has thrived under those types of teachers. Cursive was not required but she taught her class to write in it anyway. I really think they are trying to dumb down our children these days. If I was just starting out again and had to enter her in kindergarten, she would be put in a catholic school. I'm not even catholic, but those nuns take no crap and teach and push. I was shocked when I filled out the beginning of the year paperwork. A key permission form was missing for the first time. I have always signed and agreed to corporal punishment if needed. I was paddled twice in school and it did me favors. Completely done away with now. I asked Rosie what books are in her library to check out. I remember that library well, senior year worked for the librarian for 2 class periods so I did not have to take extra gym classes. They have Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and lots of Stephen King and Nora Roberts. You know what is missing? Moby Dick, Little Women, Of Mice and Men and every single Mark Twain novel. They had them before, several copies of each in fact. I know, I read them ALL.
Ranting tax.

Times they are achanging’:
My kiddos go to Catholic school (also not religious) but it is no longer taught by nuns anymore. They are overall more regimented, more academically rigorous, and uniforms are still required but other then that its not that different then public. Corporal punishment is also no longer allowed there either. I have mixed feelings about sending them there, you did just fine by her ;) there are no perfect choices.
Editing to add: They do teach cursive alongside regular letters, starting in kindergarten.

Cursive writing should come back. It's so nice on my wrist compared to normal writing. I'm debating on whether I'm going to try for a child and cursive is going to be one of the things I'd like to pass on.
Yes cursive is lovely - and looks so professional. Are you going to try for a child soon? 🥰 more babies 💕

Do they just give up and return to normal all of a sudden? Or is it a gradual process?
I have had both ways with my gals last year. Dorothy spent 3 days trying to decide to quit then finally get me afternoon she stayed out.

Next morning she came out like normal.

Couple others after a few weeks or so got up one morning, and went about their day as normal; and of course Henny Penny hatched eggs, and Fluffy and Curly now have babies.

Each are different.

@ everyone - do you know if she can give half a low dose aspirin to this wee a bird?

Valarie you have kids right? Do you have liquid kids Tylenol ? We figured out the dose somewhere here, if you can weigh him (kitchen cooking scale would be perfect) then we can get a dose for you. Aspirin would be her as it has anti inflammatory properties. But Tylenol is a good pain med.
I would go with liquid Tylenol. It's the only way to dose a chicken that small.

@ValarieF do you have access to a vet? I feel like an x-ray is in order based upon the video.

If you have some old sheets they work great, you can drape it across the fencing, a fan blowing the air under the fan will keep the air moving and prevent frost from accumulating.

What is the temperature for you tonight? Calling for -2C here.

This is really crazy weather! I have left the heat on in my office for the Tweens. And am tempted to close the back door of the barn also.
I meant blowing air under the sheet not under fan 😳
Can’t blame autocorrect on that one 😆
