Rico is going to have his daddy's comb. Should be interesting to see how big his crest will be too.
I think he has more points coming out of his comb them Mr P, who has horns, Rico is more a star shape.

Wasn’t that an awful photo hahaha made him look like an angry bird 😆

Oh he is such a wee lads, and so friendly. I will miss him but I can’t keep him 😢

I am going to see if I can find a nice home for him.

His crest makes him look like a pterodactyl haha

Meanwhile Martina has a bald spot in the middle of her crest - anyone know if that is normal?

Been a while since I was active, gonna post and then catch up. My semester is over! I passed my classes!

Put wood chips down in the run since the chicks have managed to kill all the grass already.

It being poo and sand was grossing me out so bad.

Something about the wood chips makes this feel so official.

Electric netting went up.

So now there's more room to explore, although I'd like to get some more shade going and some more interesting things in the area.

And the water tank got an autofiller and updated cups. The cups don't drip!

I originally had some knockoff rac cups, which is the bottom one in that pic. They dripped like crazy!

The integration of the hen and rooster into the chick flock is as good as it's going to get, I think, until the chicks begin laying. They avoid her and stay out of her way, but she doesn't chase them and peck at them.

It's also crazy to see them side by side, since most of the barred rocks are practically the same size as her.

My rooster, who is still skittish of me, is no longer panicked at the very sight of a human shadow. And his comb and wattle, which were scabbed and pecked at when I first got him, are showing vast improvements.

Your automatic watering station looks amazing!

The coop and run is very open and airy. Did I mention the wind?
If we lived in San Antonio it would be very different with the chooks.
Agathae is inside. Her comb is not looking that great. I think she wanted the air conditioning.

Ok so how is you hen now? Has her breathing got any better? And her comb less cyanotic?

Everyone keeps telling me to read the Harry Potter books, as they are way better than the movies. I watched the movies one weekend one winter when it was a blizzard. I really need to get the books and read them.

J K Rawling is truly imaginative and fanciful, like Tolkien (oh and dare I say Dr Who - yes I am a Who-nite). Actually all story tellers have one thing in common - they are imaginative and fanciful, true Bards :)
Harry Potter may be more designed for teenagers. I read all Harry Potter books when it was quite freshly out. I was in high school at the time. I read them like I was eating ice cream. Sooooo good. I read them until I fell asleep. I woke up and was so happy the moment I realized I have more to read. Needless to say I was so sad when it was over.

I've only had such reading experience with Harry Potter. Addictive is the word.

Yes, I read all of them in Chinese. Many years later I realized that they did a fantastic job in translation. Like the made-up word "muggle" was perfectly translated to match the pronunciation and the meaning.

Tax: all of our chickens in one picture.
