I'm very confused.
So one of our cats, which is gray, was carrying something weird. I don't have a photo unfortunately, but I don't know if it was a mouse or a baby cat but it's impossible for a 9 month old cat to give birth. Is this possible? It shouldn't be! I'm not a cat connoisseur like some of you but I know for a fact that cats definitely cannot give birth at 9 months old! The tail looked like a mouse but it was a little bigger than a mouse and the face looked like a newborn cat.
Now, I just did research and holy chickens a cat can give birth at 4 months old!? Well, you really do learn something new every day.
Well, Grandma. At least you and the others don't like the cats. But what about Mozzarella? She's not in the photo. Oh! I'll get her yet! You know what I just realized. they just created the Bermuda Triangle.

We started to give her antibiotics today. Sigh. :-(

It's Getting Hot in There

The heat has exploded here today. It is currently 95°F (35°C) in the main coop right now. I have installed the fan in the main coop window and swapped out the Cluckle Hut door for the wire only version so there is air flow for Phyllis at night.

Everyone is laying in an individual dirt hole under the magnolia tree. No one is ready for this. It just exploded on us today.

Same here, too much too fast the poor chooks weren’t moving very fast today, not even the chicks.

Hopefully it will cool off over night for you, that’s my saving grace here - the overnight temps.

For next time, Phyllis rejected chicks the first time I tried it but accepted them the second time. To get her to accept them, I had to remove the ceramic eggs she was sitting on and place the chicks under her before sunrise. That way they woke up under her peeping.

I sat by the coop from the time I put them under her until she was up and caring for them. It was nerve racking.

That's a good idea. Thanks! It complicates things here with our super long hours of daylight, but I could do it.

Also, I was trying to put the the chicks under her wing and she went kind of ballistic about me touching her wing. I wonder if I would have been better off sliding them directly under her.

I understand what you mean about nerve racking!!!

Thanks! Her demeanor has improved by leaps and bounds! Only a few days ago she wouldn't eat and peeped in distress almost all the time, holding up her left leg and biting and pulling on it so hard that she would fall over.

I read your thread about Bernie and have been dosing with B vitamins just in case.

She sure seemed to be eating fine, and right in the thick of things! And so adorable

My guess for Viola (silver) is Cream Legbar and for Goneril (gold) is Speckled Sussex. Would those tones line up with those breeds?
