Ponies. Oh, boy. You better be ready for some major teenager attitude with ponies. Lol. Although, if you find one you can ride (larger breeds), they are quite fun and trust deeply.
A good pony is worth a fortune up here. I just went for ‘loook there’s a butterfly’ ride on Lulu 😊 a nice walk down the road. Black flies are evil 😳

Boy where my chickens ever freaked out by the change in routine! I haven’t ridden since last Fall. And you would think I was murdering chickens in here!

Lulu is a registered Pony-of-the-Americas mare, snow cap appy markings, 21 yrs old on the 05 July, and 13.2hrs

Had to check the chooks. They were quiet all of a sudden, they are good - it getting hot now so they are finding a cool spot to lay down for the rest of the day - except the little ones! Seems the Tweens and them are hanging out together now.

Well, like all things chicken related, I get better with experience, so maybe I will be able to get a broody to adopt next time, although I may just let my broody have fertilized eggs and hatch herself.

For now, I am really enjoying getting to have a closer relationship with the babies, so it's fine.
Have to say I have less trouble with my hand raised babies than the broodies, and of course it’s hilarious when they all run after you - I have 13 running after me now! All those little feet running on the brick pavers 😁

I would think long and hard setting chicks with a broody next time. Just so much drama with the fighting.

I'm glad you brought this up again! I bought 2 of the ones you recommended last fall, but go them too late to use them. However, later this week it is supposed to get into the 90s - I need to get them out and charged up so the girls (well girls & boys) will have a bit of a breeze to stand in front of.
I did already scrub out their cooler waterers this weekend and deployed them - and put up containers of water in the freezer so can add large chunks of ice to the coolers BUT: I had completely forgotten about the new fans! I have ones that are from Rigid that run on the same batteries as tools, but they are clunky and they only last about 6 hours on a battery. ( good for weekends, when I can deploy them around 10am and they run for the hottest part of the day - not so good for weekdays as they conk out just at the peak of the heat!)

🤔🤔 I should probably dampen their dust bath dirt, too, come to think of it! That will be something for Wed. night - so it has time to soak in a bit before the worst of the heat on Thursday.
I was going to lug the hose over to the Chicken Palace and do some 'spring' cleaning so everything is nice and damp for when the heat hits.

Hello little ones!! They are beautiful and what wonderful photos of them all ❤️

So glad to hear the the eye surgery went well. Have fun up in the air!

I live in a very tiny town called Lucasville. I dod try Airgas but the store doesn’t have it in Chillicothe which is still an hr away but I woulda drove that far. Only in Columbus do they have it. Thank you so much for looking those up for me.

None of our grocery stores here carry it any longer. I did call penguin lovely customer service agent, very kind and he tried to help but again Columbus was the closest place and its about 2 - 2.5 hrs away. Perhaps it just doesn’t sell here very well idk 🤷‍♀️. The closest I got was Kroger who said yes (I got excited) we used carry it but haven’t for years now. :( Thank you for the recommendations and advice. I am sure it would have helped if I could have gotten it. I will do an update on the rat wars soon.
I'm so sorry. That's unfortunate. It's very effective and safe.

Carbon monoxide is another way to go. I know of people who have hooked their car tailpipe to a hose and pumped the tunnels with CO. Again you have to have all exits plugged and most importantly, I would relocate the chickens while doing this in case any leaked into the coop.

Another source of CO2 is a fire extinguisher. Same principle as CO but safer s the CO2 is heavier and should stay in the tunnels. A large fire extinguisher might do the job.
