Well look at this - these chicks are 5 weeks old now - this is Penne. Should I cry? That's wattles right? the comb is not as developed as Rico at that age...

well.......this one is giving mixed signals. At 5 weeks lack of comb is good. Yes that is wattles, but, again, 5 weeks old so could indicate a hen with nice wattles. What worries me, the color on those wattles, and is that red at the base of the still tiny comb? Right now it could go either way, evaluate again in a week.

edited to add.
while zooming in can see the start of iridescence on those shoulder feathers.....I will not lie, I would be worried.

Yes I have been suspicious of this chick from the beginning - no tail feathers to me is a red flag as any pullets I have been getting have had really good tail feathers when born.

Well I have purposely not been getting attached to this one, so if Freezer Camp is part of it's future then so be it. For now it shall have a splendid life and enjoy roaming and digging in the dirt, pooping on my floor and begging for treats.

I have been purposely not checking the school chicks - other than the light grey one and the chocolaty coloured one who insist on roosting on me (I think both are pullets - but what do I know?). They can stay until they are sold off or if not then I will wait till they are at POL or ready for Freezer Camp.

Like I said, still early enough it can go either way, should know for sure in a week or two. I'm also interested in hearing other's opinions on this one now. Keep on snuggling my Martina though, that is a pullet I am sure of it.

Awe, sunbathing is great, but it is even better when you get to do it on mum's comfy chair!

She looks lovely as always, shining in the sun. While it was hard to watch her limp, when she runs it creates the cutest little funky gate! 🥰 🥰 🥰

It was so nice she came over and say 'hello'(or goodbye?) before taking off to the coop
I agree her gate is adorable!

Please hide me, the dogs think I’m a rooster! IMG_2668.jpeg

Yes the colour is just throwing me also. I was thinking more of a black, maybe with some sort of pencilling, or highlights of light colour.

I wonder what she will be once she matures?

(RC is going to say a chicken I just know it... haha)
Would I? No!
I would be accurate and say she will be a pretty chicken.
