I've gotten used to adults scattered all over: up under the lilac by the deck, staging a raid on the patio, under the deck where the wood pile was, visiting the horses down below, in the carport, out along assorted hedges. The last couple of days, the weather has been much warmer (@ 70F) and rains have skirted around us. The adults....ALL of them, have been glued to the olive trees, the dusty patch above the coop

They're taking baby raising (even without a broody mama) seriously. I heard a call from Whiskey today which had Twirp and Nellie bolting across an open area to get under some of the shrubs, where they froze. Looking around, there was a bird flying up the valley: long narrow tail, narrowish wings (bird ID: similar profile to a Kestrel).
