So I lucked out and found a feed store with chicks. Made a quick trip there as Raven was about ready to leave the nest box and any chance of her adopting more chicks was running out. She has had them for 2 hours, I'm cautious but think she is going to take them. There have been a few pecks but not aggressive. She is encouraging them under her. She did this when she adopted the single chick last year and Chiquita did the same with the Marshmallows. I will feel better though tomorrow morning. It just so happens that today is 2 for Tuesday, how convenient.
First the 4 she hatched out.
2 blondes

How is your neck and shoulder?

My pain is irrelevant compared to my poor hen. She hasn’t eaten anything all day. And coughed up the calcium tablet I put in her beak. She’s stubborn for sure. She’s inside the house with me again tonight.

Seems the Sophia being broody has upset the group dynamics with the head trio of Bosses.

And Mr P decided that their prime roost location was where he was going to sleep! Poor Blanche and Penelope.

I also moved the school chicks crate out of my office an into the small shavings room where the hen house is, now that the stall I will be using as the summer house has the screening up that shavings room is now fairly secure.

Of course the wee chickies were all confused and I had to one by one put them into the crate. They were trying to get back into my office - awwww poor wee kiddies. They can hang out there and poop on me and the floors tomorrow

Yes, yes I did. We will just pretend she had a 100% hatch rate as she was initially set with 12 eggs to begin with. What was I to do, I had to get a minimum of 6, with 4 breeds I wanted. I guess I could have gotten 1 of each and then pick one to have a extra. I thought about it but well, things happen and not all chicks survive the first week and well, girls. We all know I cannot hatch girls so hopefully all 8 are indeed girls.
