How are all the other chooks? Are they ok? Also how old was Lhicken? Curious as you have had 2 now. Production breeds prone to these things

They are adorable and what lovely and unique names for each of them!

I suspect Chia is Pear's offspring (clean yellow legs) and Shan obviously from either Primula or Belladonna (more likely) and Kren (the green legs). Enigma is an enigma. Zulu is likely Jessica's offspring, Havoc from the in-laws (several there have a black headspot/stripe, the cheeks, and the buff color), and Tuff is from either Pippa or Maizie and Kren (again the green legs).

Wish we had an easy way to do a dna test!

Meanwhile remember that article on familial scent with the chickens? It would explain a lot with Rico and Tippy, who are full siblings, those two are inseparable, meanwhile Martina who is only 1/2 sibling through their Dada, is always the odd one out. So she has been hanging out with the school chicks more.

I have been watching the school chicks to see if any of them hang out together more often. Jury is out on that - likely because there are 10 of them!

Well, I have to break the news somehow.
I will tell you, although this is through many tears on my side.
Lhicken is not here anymore. She is gone. I am cremating her even though there is a fire ban.

You know, you can keep her name as an honor to her/in memory of her. There is nothing that says you can't! If I ever get my 'farm' fully up and operational, I want to name it 'Rosie's Chicks', in honor of one of my first dear, sweet hens - she taught me just how smart, quirky, and loving (from a distance- not cuddly) a chicken can be. AND - she also taught me just how easy it was to train a human!

Reminds me of the time my lens fell out of my glasses while I was working, I noticed the monitor was very blurry, I took off my glasses to clean the lens…. Left side clean, right side !!!! What the heck?

Not easy to get glasses fixed in Fort MacKay. But some tar did the trick till I could get home

Tape tape!!! I taped the lens in place - tar?! Hahahaha

Thunder means lightning that’s bad news - hope no new fires start up.

Make sure your fire is out - I know you know that, I am just an old mother hen. I have seen fires up close remember. Terrifying.

Luckily for me the lens that fell out and shattered, was the same eye that had been operated on first. I’m glad I saved those glasses !

Just checking the schoool chicks and they look ok on their new roost. Rico and Tippy opted to roost in a nest box leaving Martina with the chicks.

Mum Marty is in her nest box looking like some strange creature!
