All good, shoes on the table, cat on the table, heck I bet we have all had a chicken or two on the table! (Live I am meaning by that!)

Shoes on the table is gross. But a chicken I can live with

In my experience once a hen has chosen her spot to go broody, there is no moving her. I have tried and they simply will not have it. They will not settle at the new spot, pace, trample their eggs and given the first chance run right back to where their eggs were and sit on nothing. My flock over 2/3s of the hens I have have went broody at least once. Many have raised chicks multiple times. If the spot they choose to sit is good they are given eggs and I work around them. If it is bad and they will not be moved, again, tried and failed they have the eggs taken away and are broken up. My flock free ranges and I never separate the flock from the mothers and chicks. In doing this once the mother's are finished my chosen keeper chicks if I have any are already fully integrated into the flock. It has been a long year already since January. 5 broods of chicks, with another currently setting. I have another hen who is broody that my grandmother does not know about who I am trying to break. Right now it is a battle of wills, I will win this Perdita, no chicks for you right now.

I had Sophia out for a while, now that I am not giving her chicks I am taking her off the nest frequently, taking her outside to do chicken things. She does her thing then after about 20 min runs back to the nestbox.

I would have suggested raising mealworms, but maybe that is not the best idea.They are actually not gross and pretty easy to handle and not a lot of maintenance to take care of them.
Those junebugs here terrify me. I am afraid of one hitting my eye or going into my mouth.

Yep had one fly into my face and cling to my lip once! Hahaha

When I was in Egypt visiting my friend a Scarab flew into me - it like the size of a tangerine! I have a photo somewhere with it in my hand. Awesome creature but when the fly into you it hurts. June bugs are in the same family as Scarabs.

Can you imagine the feast a chicken would have with a Scarab !!!

Haha! Penny finally stopped being broody, but she tagged off to Myrna who is now screaming if I even walk in the coop!

I hate that when they scream at me like that. Such a loud obnoxious noise coming from a little beak !

And was afraid Marty would go broody, or Henny Penny but I never in 100 yrs would have guessed Sophia! She is 4 yrs old and has never been broody. All winter she and Mr P and Penelope were crowing up a storm.

But I have only myself to blame, she sits in her nest box when she lays her egg, all afternoon, I made the comment once that I was surprised she had never gone broody, the amt of time she spends in her nest box growling all the time - next thing I know she’s gone broody on me!

I do feel guilty for not giving her chicks but it just not a good time.

Though I sometimes wonder what my neighbours think of me prancing around out here everyday with the horses and now chickens

My neighbours to the north have known me over 30 yrs so they know I am nuts. But the ones to the south only about 15 yrs hahaha. There I was prancing around in my leggings, muckers, swimsuit, topped with my ratty old ball cap, chasing chickens yelling 'go home, Rose, go home, Mr P I swear I am gonna get mad, now get home'.... I must be a sight to behold and hear!

Oh my gosh look at this chick Little Grey - I wonder what colour egg she will lay? I will have to keep her to find out I guess.

Does anyone know if two splash can creat a blue? Of would it be splash and a blue?

2 splash will only make splash. A splash and a blue will make splash OR blue. A splash and a black will ONLY make blue.

That is my experience as well. When I tried to move Sydney she went crazy to get back to her nest. She would not be moved.

Oh, I'm fine with mealworms. I have a Leopard Gecko, and all she eats is live mealworms.
I like to name them after my dad and brother so that I can "kill" them.
